Utah’s Top 25
Once again we have another installment of our Top 25. This year has been such a fun year to cover. We have a lot of players playing top level basketball. We also have coaches that have been getting the best out of their teams. We have a unanimous # 1 team in the state that is ranked in every poll in the country. Wasatch Academy is a must watch team. Strength of schedule has a lot to do with our rankings as some teams have just played tougher competition. We know some teams have battled injuries but that’s just the nature of the game.
1.Wasatch Academy 19-0
They continue to impress with a huge win over Clark (NV) that is well coached and has D1 talent. The Tigers went on a crazy run to end the game.
2.Pleasant Grove 14-2
Keeps winning and they got their starting SG back.
3.Olympus 14-2
They’re starting to hit a great groove. Doesn’t look good for other 5A programs. The Jones & DowDell backcourt is one of the highest scoring duo we can remember.
4.Lone Peak 10-4
The Knights could be the team to slay the giants in Region 4.
5.American Fork 14-1
Tough loss to Kearns without Isaac Johnson. Will be interesting to see if Cuff can continue the winning culture. Very different team with Johnson on the floor.
6.Juan Diego 14-1
Best defense in the state and they have been playing without their starting PG for sometime now, but he’s back.
8.Copper Hills 9-5
Has the best unsigned D1 player in the state arguably but they have some good pieces. Should be an interesting game vs. Herriman.
9.Herriman 10-6
Mustangs could give CHHS some trouble. Playing well as of late. They have the height and the athleticism to play with anyone.
10.Corner Canyon 10-6
The Chargers are starting to get their second wind. They have been playing better after their hiccup to Brighton.
11.Westlake 12-3
We will see how gritty Westlake is as they start their battles in Region 4.
12.Skyridge 12-4
A healthy Skyridge team is a dangerous team. Reid and Snoody are tough.
13.Bountiful 10-7
The Braves look like a team that will take their region. Their youngster Robert Whaley is starting to come into his own.
14.Timpanogos 11-5
A true 5A contender. The T-Wolves have all the right pieces.
15.Davis 10-6
Has the right pieces but can they get them to sync in time.
16.Fremont 10-4
Slepper team with a great backcourt.
17.Jordan 11-5
Has two dynamic bigs but they need to be consistent.
18.Orem 10-4
Playing well without Puka. If he comes back will he be a distraction or the missing piece to win state.
19.Kearns 11-3
Look for Kearns to keep climbing in the poll. They have some great front court players.
20.Bingham 10-5
Don’t count the Miners out as they’re hungry and well coached.
21.Brighton 10-5
They stunned CCHS but can they keep it rolling.
22.Riverton 9-7
They have some shooters and some mobile front court players. Should finish 3rd in their region.
23.Woods Cross 11-3
If the Wildcats can finish 2nd in their region they would be fine. Tough loss to Viewmont.
25. East 9-8
Staring to play well.
Just missed the poll: Layton, Timpview, Layton Christian, Green Canyon, Wasatch, Pine View and Sky View
