With players from all levels still unsigned in the 2019 class, college coaches from all divisions should be following up with PrepHoopsNC’s scouts Justin Byerly and Charles Clark to see where and what players would fit into their program.
6-foot-9 big man Ben Beeker of Hendersonville High School is the most dominate big man in Western North Carolina at the public school level. His size and athleticism is something that we do not see much of in the mountains and Beeker is head and shoulders above any other big in the area.
Only one school has made an offer to Beeker. Mars Hill University made an offer for Beeker just over the summer but he is getting some Division One interest. A key for big men who haven’t received a Division One offer is playing the waiting game to see if the transfer market in April has allowed a program to sign a big man. You can’t teach 6-foot-9 and long and athletic. Beeker is exactly that. He is a sold rebounder; can finish plays above the rim and is a decent mid-range shooter; he can block shots with his timing and is a mis-match problem at this level with his height. He gets to the foul line a lot. He has a soft touch around the rim and with his mid-range shot. He does a really good job of attracting defenses and then finding the open man when the defense collapses on him. He keeps the ball high on rebounds and is very good at setting up the outlet pass for the fast break.
Beeker is averaging 18 points and 13 rebounds so far this season for The Bearcats who are 12-1 overall on the season. Against West Henderson High School a few weeks ago, Beeker scored 24 points and grabbed 20 rebounds in a Hendersonville High School win.
