Continue ReadingThe holidays are over and full focus is back on the basketball. This Tuesday may prove to be a pivotal one as there are a few contest that will have barrings on class and division rankings. We will take a look at specific games in north Louisiana and others around the state as we preview Tuesday night hoops action.
#5 Simsboro (19-6) at #3 Doyline (19-5) – Match Up of the Night
The Scoop: Class B has the biggest game of the night in north Louisiana as #5 Doyline takes on defending state champion Simsboro. Doyline rides into this game with a six game winning streak. Their last lost was to the Tigers so they will be looking for revenge in this one. Simsboro has put together back-to-back wins with one of them coming against 5A school West Monroe.
Match up to watch: Doyline’s leading scorer Decari Markray (6’3″, 2020) vs Simsboro most versatile player Jakemin Abney (6’3″, 2020). Both players have an abundance of versatility to their games and will make an impression on both ends of the floor. Markray is more of scorer and finisher while Abney can facilitate and score. Whoever gets the better of this wing battle should place their team in position to win.
Prediction: Pick’em game. Simsboro won by 36 at home. This contest can go either way.
#31 BTW-Shreveport (5-10) at #9 Huntington (11-6)
The Scoop: This class 1-4A match up is a district battle of team’s that need to get back on the winning path. Both teams have lost three in a row and are looking to end their slide. Strangely enough, it might be the Lions that come into the game with some momentum. BTW lost in overtime to the Richwood Rams during the Bossier Invitational. Huntington, on the other hand, lost by more than twenty to the Knights from Woodlawn.
Match up to watch: BTW point guard Herman Key (5’9, 2020) vs HHS point guard Rayshun McCulluar (5’10, 2022) is the match up to watch. Both guards can fill it up and distribute the rock. McCulluar has the upper hand with a better supporting cast. However, Booker T. scraps and claws every bit of the way during games. This game will come down to which guard is contained more by the others defense.
Prediction: Huntington (because they are the home team)
#31 Airline High (12-8) at #35 Captain Shreve (10-9)
The Scoop: Airline is the 1-5A two-time defending district champion and won its first district game while Shreve has won for of its last five. Shreve has also won its first two district contest under Coach Bush. A Shreve win will be Airline’s first lose in district in almost two calendar years as they went undefeated last year. Look for Airline to continue improving as they have won their last four games.
Match up to watch: Tarae “TJ” Robinson (5’9″, 2019) and Marvin Young (6’2, 2019) were AAU teammates this past summer. Since TJ has the upper hand from last season, Marvin and his troops will be looking to take a commanding district lead. Both guards can score. It will be whoever wins on the defensive end that will decide the winner of this contest.
Prediction: Captain Shreve (the Shreve atmosphere might be one of the best in north Louisiana)
#10 Tioga High (20-5) at #15 Natchitoches Central (11-8)
The Scoop: There is probably no team hotter than Tioga in any classification as they have won 10 of their last 11. On the other side, the home team Chiefs are coming off probably their worst loss of the season as they lost to Loyola Prep by 7 in the Bossier Invitational third place game. However, the Chiefs play well at home.
Match up to watch: Jerry Moore (6’4″, 2019) and Calvin “CJ” Carpenter (6’3″, 2019) both bring a football mentality onto the basketball court. They are constantly in attack mode. Whoever gets the advantage by attacking the basket, for their team, will give their team the edge.
Prediction: Tioga (Tioga has won on the road and at home this season)
Other Tuesday night match-ups: Jonesboro-Hodge vs Arcadia, Calvary Baptist vs D’Arbonne Woods Charter, Walker vs Madison Prep,
