Focusing on just a single aspect of the game, I noticed a few players who rebounded in a pretty special way and were able to change the game with the way they played. Of the players on hand at the showcase, these were the most talented rebounders who, not only got a lot of boards, but actually made a noticeable difference in their games by rebounding.
Jacob Germany — Kingston
Jacob Germany was one of the most physically-dominating rebounders on Saturday. Germany is always aware of where the ball will fall and uses his long arms to meet it. At 6-foot-10-inches, the senior forward and Division-I UTSA signee has the reach to get a lot of rebounds, even if he doesn’t get in the best position. Perks of being the tallest guy on the floor, I guess. Despite taking the loss, Germany came up huge on Saturday.
Julian Cockrell — Tulsa Memorial
Julian Cockrell, an NOC-Enid signee, is powerful, flexible, and strong. Cockrell explodes into the lane to crash the boards and get rebounds with a relentlessness to be admired. Sometimes, guys just want to go get buckets and don’t recognize the damage they can do to opposing teams with great rebounding, but Cockrell gets that and excels at it.
Donovan Green — Putnam City West
Donovan Green has been a guy I’ve watched a few times this season, and he always stands out for his ability to change the game with rebounding. In the fast-paced style of play the Patriots utilize, Green’s rebounding dominance can really deal blows to an opposing team. I believe that Green’s skill set helps the Patriots to bury a team, as we saw against Kingston on Saturday.
