Top performers: 2019 MLK Classic (Day 2)
Talented underclassmen — including three freshmen — stood out Monday on Day 2 of the 2019 MLK Classic at Stranahan High School in Fort Lauderdale.
Several college assistants were on hand to monitor the action, including from the University of Miami, Barry, Palm Beach Atlantic, FAU, Keiser & ASA.
Monday’s final scores included:
Jupiter 51, Westwood Christian 42
Miami Schoolhouse Prep 62, Santaluces 56
Miami Belen Jesuit 54, Cooper City 48
Mater Academy 56, Royal Palm Beach 42
Fort Lauderdale Calvary Christian 53, American Heritage-Plantation 50
Wellington 64, Miami Coral Park 58
Fort Lauderdale Stranahan 76, Clearwater Superior Collegiate 62
Pompano Beach Blanche Ely 64, Miami Northwestern 57
The top performers from Day 2 were:
Gregg Glenn III (2022), Calvary Christian
The talented freshman (pictured above) led Calvary Christian past Heritage-Plantation with 22 points.
Glenn has a lot of tools. A head coach from another Broward County school today brought up the name Scottie Barnes in discussing Glenn.
Glenn is tough to contain as he can do it inside and out. First offer came from Iowa State.
Inady Legiste (2020), Stranahan
The 6-6 big was strong in the paint with 20 points vs. Superior Collegiate.
Legiste has an Albany State offer and interest from North Florida.
Malik Reneau (2022), Mater Academy
The talented 6-6 freshman led Mater Academy with 20 points. Very smooth operator. He is deadly when he gets the ball in the paint. Can also step out and hit jumper. Defends, great attitude.
Eighth-grader Michael Bradley is just 5-2 but can shoot. Bradley showed excellent composure, hitting five 3-pointers for 15 points. Bradley’s dad, an assistant at Barry, goes 6-7.
Joshua Scott (2019), Blanche Ely
The 6-5 senior led the Tigers with 14 points in an electric game with Miami Northwestern. Ely has won a season-high five in a row.
2020s A.J. Staton-McCray and Lamont Evans added 12 apiece.
Daniel Sueiro (2019) & Alec Rodriguez (2019) Belen Jesuit
The duo combined for 36 of Belen’s 54 points.
The 6-3 Sueiro (below) connected on eight field goals — seven of them 3-pointers — for 23 points and 6 rebounds.
The 5-10 Rodriguez added 13 points, had 5 assists and held 2020 Dallas Graziani somewhat in check.
Dallas Graziani (2020), Cooper City
The 5-8 Graziani, who has an early offer from Missouri Western, scored 26 of Cooper City’s 48 points. He hit four 3-pointers.
Graziani did most of his damage over the final 18 minutes of the game. With 2 minutes to play in the half, he only had one made field goal.
Masai Olowokere (2019) & Andrew Volmar (2020), American Heritage
The 6-5 Olowokere (below), who was at George School in Pennsylvania last year, can shoot it. He drilled six 3-pointers on the way to 21 points.
The 6-1 Volmar, who also plays on the Heritage football team, is explosive and tough to contain. He had 19 vs. Calvary.
Linton Brown (2019), Wellington
Scored 22 points and was named the game’s MVP as Wellington held off Miami Coral Park.
“I’m a scorer,” Brown said. “I can get to the rim. I can set people up.”
The 6-4 Brown has offers from Tennessee Tech and Indian River. He has interest from Queens University Charlotte, FAU, Santa Fe and Catawba.
Brown has visited Indian River. He plans to check out Queens and Catawba.
Khalil Shaheed (2020), Superior Collegiate
The 6-3 Shaheed goes all out. Very athletic and can score. Defense a work in progress.
Has already earned offers from FAU, Stetson and Bethune-Cookman.
Jaren Johnson (2019), Miami Northwestern
The 6-4 guard had 11 points in the loss to Ely. He plays hard … so hard he took a major cut to his cheek.
Johnson, 2019 James White (14 points) and 2019 Devin Clark (11 points) kept the Bulls in the game until the end.
Shiedrice Pierre (2019) & Jose-Luis Benitez (2020), SHP
Schoolhouse Prep’s Pierre and Benitez combined for 41 points vs. Santaluces.
The 5-9 Pierre, who had 20 points Saturday in a W over Hollywood McArthur, scored 21 and the 6-1 Benitez had 20 for coach Colin Campbell.
6-1 junior Crisnel Francois led Santaluces with 19.
Ga’Khari Lacount (2020), Coral Park
Barry University, Florida Southwestern and Eastern Florida all called in the past week to inquire about Lacount, per the Coral Park staff. Barry was in attendance Monday.
The athletic 6-1 guard had 19 vs. Wellington. Good passer, finishes.
Alex Houck (2022), Jupiter
The 5-11 freshman led Jupiter with 13 points. Sophomore Jarvis Rolle had 17 for Westwood Christian.
