This a tournament where only the best will flourish due to the large amount of college prospects who are competing. Here are the best glue guys in the tournament:
Shayon Janloo 2019 Putnam City
Janloo has been a welcomed addition to an already improved Pirates squad. This veteran wing has given PCO more versatility on both ends of the floor and that showed this weekend.
At 6’4, Janloo was asked to cover bigs much taller or stronger than him but he never settled for excuses. One of his biggest qualities is his competitiveness which showed on the defensive end as he did a great job of using his athleticism and speed to beat the larger offensive players to the spot.
Janloo also was very aggressive on offensive taking advantage of usually having a smaller guard covering him. He would catch the ball on the move and carry that momentum in the lane and draw a foul.
The senior wing showed that he is one of the more talented glue guys in 6A.
Josh Nwankwo 2021 Putnam City North
Nwankwo is a blossoming young wing who is getting better with every opportunity and that showed in the PCI. He showed his perimeter skills not only as a ball-handler but as a spot up shooter as well.
He did a great job of playing off of Micah Thomas and picking his spots when to be aggressive.
Nwankwo is a 6’5 wing who is learning how to use his size to his advantage at the 6A level so it was promising to see him use his wing span to be disruptive on the defensive end.
He blocked shots around the rim, deflected passes out of his area, and did an even better job at moving his feet and at the top of the zone and never giving the ball handler an angle to get to the rim.
Emahdre Hightower 2020 Putnam City West
Hightower is a ball of energy who plays the game with a certain level of joy and urgency that coaches love to see. The junior guard has stepped this weekend and made plays for the Patriots.
PCW has a ton of talent but Hightower brings the toughness and “dog” mentality to this young squad. Hightower is a tough guard to stop with the ball in his hands.
Hightower’s biggest strength is his defense and he brings that every night. He was one of the best defenders at the PCI because of his gridiron type quickness which allowed him to cut guys off.
They say defense wins championships but so do tough glue guys like Hightower.
Donovan Green 2019 Putnam City West
Green is 6’6 mobile big man who can finish around the rim and plays with a high motor. PCW hasn’t always had the type of size to compete down low but Green has given them the ability to play big with him and Jaylen Rainey.
Green understands his role for the Patriots and he flourished at the PCI. He did a great job of rebounding on both ends of the floor and making it tough for anyone to block him out.
The senior center also added timely buckets when called on and given the opportunities.
Will McDonald 2019 Heritage Hall
McDonald is one of the most talented glue-guys in the state because of his versatility and his ability to fill in all of the gaps for the Chargers.
When Heritage Hall needs someone to come up with the loose ball, make the tough pass, hit the open three then McDonald steps up. He did a great job at the PCI of feeding off of Trey Alexander’s playmaking ability and seeing what play needs to be made next.
McDonald has a high basketball IQ and alot of in-game experience so he is ready for all situations. This Heritage Hall team may have the best player in the state but McDonald and others fill in the rest of the gaps to make the Chargers a championship contender.
