These hoopers are putting up big numbers night after night and have a huge impact on their team’s success. With such good cast of talent in South Dakota, sometimes we can get caught up in the stat sheet wondering who had the big night.
We know that basketball is a team sport and every team has those guys that are doing the dirty work that can sometimes be overlooked. I’ve asked these same top preps listed above, who on their teams have been doing the dirty work all season that hasn’t shown up in the newspapers or on social media.
Here is what they had to say:
Matthew Mors – Yankton
Glue Guy: Cole Sawatzke / Sr.
“I would have to say Cole Sawatzke. He worked as hard as anyone in the offseason, whether it was in the weight room or the gym. He is one of the best shooters I have ever seen or played with. I love to play with him. Cole is also an amazing person with great qualities. Cole gives us a constant spark off the bench and will do whatever is needed to win.”
Jared Jaros – SF Lincoln
Glue Guy: Zach Hanson / Sr.
“I’d say Zach Hanson. He goes out and works as hard as he can 100 percent of the time and comes up big every time.”
Noah Freidel – Tea Area
Glue Guy: Kaleb Joffer / Sr.
“Everyone else on our team outside of me and Justin are playing so good this year. We couldn’t have the success we are having without any of them! But I would go with Kaleb Joffer. The guy is a beast down low and has had multiple double doubles. He has guarded all the bigs we have played all year and done a great job. He is a presence down low and he helps our team a lot.”
Nick Hoyt – Harrisburg
Glue Guy: Cale Murphy / Sr.
“We have a lot of under appreciated guys on our team but one of the most under appreciated guys is Cale Murphy. The guy always battles on the glass and for loose balls. He’s also a great defender for our team too and it doesn’t go unnoticed in our program. We appreciate what he brings to the team and we know we wouldn’t be the same team without him and other under appreciated guys.”
Akoi Akoi – SF O’Gorman
Glue Guy: Eddie Meylor / Soph.
“That’s a tricky question to me. The guy on my team that does the dirty work and gets it done, is the sophomore Eddie Meylor. He rebounds and always has positive energy.”
Ale Rama – Red Cloud
Glue Guy: Beau Donovan / Soph.
“His name is Beau Donovan. He is a sophomore that starts and he really does a lot of things well. He has come up big in close games and is a great decision maker. He uses his body really well and doesn’t really turn the ball over. He works really hard outside of practices and is a great help in our success.”
