Saturday was also the opening round of the Calhoun County Tournament. Take a look at the standouts from Saturday.
Hayden Lamey (Briarwood): Lamey has been a steady force for Briarwood all season. In double overtime, Lamey finished with 28-7-4. What’s most impressive is his efficiency night in and night out.
Sam Russell (Briarwood): Russell has been the ultimate glue guy. Sam takes charges, blocks out, and makes garbage plays. Russell hit a big time three to force the first overtime vs Sylacauga.
Kam Woods (Pinson Valley): It was another night at the office for Woods. Kam consistently puts up very similar numbers every game. In a road win over Tate (FL), Woods finished with 28-7-6. Kam also had 6 steals.
GaQuincy McKinstry (Pinson Valley): GaQuincy came to play vs Tate (FL). Kool-Aid was one of the most athletic players on the court in this matchup. GaQuincy finished with 31 points, 4 steals, and 3 assists.
Tony Toney (Mae Jemison): Tony did everything he could for Jemison, but his efforts came up just short. Columbia won 56-52. Tony made big shots and attacked the glass for the Jags. He finished with 26 points and 10 boards.
Carson Muse (West Morgan): Muse is only an 8th grader, but he had a huge role Saturday. Muse finished with 14-11-4 as West Morgan locked up the #1 seed in their area.
Barry Dunning (McGill-Toolen): Dunning is one of the top 2022 prospects in the state. Saturday, he looked like the best player on the floor vs Lee (Montgomery). Dunning made big defensive plays, and he rattled the rims with big dunks. Barry finished with 22 points in his team’s win.
Travis Kidd (Ellwood Christian): In the opening game of the Capital City vs Port City Classic, Kidd could not be stopped. Travis scored from all over the court and finished with 24 points in his team’s win.
Kobe Messer (JCA): Messer lit up the nets Saturday. Kobe was 14-of-21 from the field and finished with 31 points. Messer is known for his 3 point shooting, but Saturday Messer was 11-16 from inside the arc.
Chase Vinson (JCA): Vinson was unstoppable down low Saturday. Vinson finished anytime he got to the paint, and he dominated the glass. Chase finished with 17 points and 20 rebounds.
