Vance has exploded for some big-time performances so far – notably in the Les Schwab Invitational – and his hope is that college programs come on board as he looks forward to the next level but also a Demos state title run.
“It’s my senior year so I’ve got to show out,” Vance said. “I’m just trying to do all I can to help my team win.”
What Vance does – and does well – is score. His ability to put the ball in the basket at all three levels was on display at the Les Schwab Invitational. In Jefferson’s opening round victory over South Salem, Vance came off the bench with 21 points. But in their second round blowout win over West Linn, he simply exploded with 35 points, hitting deep threes along with converting all sorts of athletic finishes around and at the rim in transition.
Vance most recently dropped in five threes in Jefferson’s tight loss to Grant. His hope is that college coaches are watching. He’s recently heard from the College of Southern Idaho, Bellevue CC, and a number of other JC programs and it’s a route he’s not opposed to taking for next season.
“We’ll see what other colleges will be talking to me (this season),” Vance said. “Junior college is most likely what I’m going to do. I feel like I can get better and develop there and then potentially go to Division I after the first two years.”
As Vance continues to pour in the points, his hope is that it helps the Demos get back on the right track in winning ball games. “We’ve just got to see what happens and take every game at one time,” Vance said. “We’ve been on a really bad slump and Pat (Strickland) has been coaching us to play together. We haven’t been playing together our first couple of games. We’ll see.”
Vance currently ranks as the #6 player in the PrepHoops Class of 2019 rankings.
