The versatile 6-foot-5, 170-pound swingman has been the Crusaders’ top offensive threat so far, even as defenses have put their focus on him. But as he has individually shined, Bieker remains focused on his team and knows that without his teammates, nothing would be possible.
“In terms of the whole season I feel like we’re starting to find our groove,” Bieker said. “We’re really starting to play together. Since we’ve been doing that, we can have games where we might not have our best games but our team picks it up and plays hard and we can still get a big win. We’ve really liked how we have been looking.”
Bieker has excelled with his length, motor, and athleticism. The lefty has gotten the job done in all of Jesuit’s top games this year, and that includes Jefferson, Central Catholic, Lake Oswego (twice), Barlow, West Linn, South Salem, and nationally ranked Sierra Canyon. Playing against big-name opponents doesn’t frighten the senior at all.
“We love playing the best teams because we know that’s what will get us most ready for spring and the Chiles (Center),” he added. “We want those big games and now when we win them it doesn’t feel like too much because we’re used to it – we’ve shown that we can hang with anyone and beat anyone really.”
On the recruiting front, Bieker notes that he’s hearing from many of the same schools that have been recruiting him since the summer, namely Academy of Art, Menlo College, and Pacific University, and recently Concordia (Ore.) has reached out. He continues to keep all options open – including any opportunity to walk-on at a WCC school, one of his goals going into the summer.
Bieker and his Jesuit teammates will be playing in their next big game on Tuesday night against Sunset. He currently ranks as the #25 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2019 rankings.
