But this season for Marshfield, the senior forward has been playing more on the perimeter – mainly because he can be effective out there. Webster is still looking to impress college coaches with that versatility as he tries to take the Pirates as far as they can go.
“We have a lot of experience – this is some of our third years playing varsity,” Webster said. “We also have a lot of guys stepping up that are younger as well. I haven’t had really that many high scoring games, but I’ve been having a lot of games with high assists and rebounds and playing good defense as well. I’ve been shooting the three better as the season has gone along and I’ve been setting up my teammates too.”
Over the summer, Webster worked on his shooting range and passing and he’s been able to showcase that this year as Oregon State football standout Cory Stover has anchored the paint for Marshfield. While he notes that recruiting has slowed down a bit since the season started, Webster notes that schools such as George Fox, Northwest Christian, Lane CC, Linn-Benton CC remain interested but he’s keeping all of his options open.
Continued good play this season and a run in the post-season should only help his cause and he’s staying positive. “I think we’re going to be really successful and better than last year and we got fourth place at state,” Webster said. “I feel like we have the chance to place higher than that. We just have to execute and listen to our coach and do what he says.”
Webster currently ranks as the #33 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2019 rankings.
