The athletic 6-foot-5, 190-pound junior has not only seamlessly fit in at Churchill High School this season but has made an major impact for the Lancers. But despite helping the team chase a state title and putting together highlight finishes along the way, Goracke remains unsatisfied and continues to work.
“I’m playing OK but I feel I can distribute the ball better and get my teammates involved,” Goracke said. “I feel like I need to play a little more unselfishly. But coming straight off of AAU season and playing in the EYBL, (playing in 5A) hasn’t been much harder at all.”
Goracke has done a bit of everything for Churchill this season. As one of the taller guys on the team, he’s filled in down low but has also had the opportunity to flash to the perimeter for open threes and drives to the basket. And of course, his athleticism has been on display. At the Les Schwab Invitational in December, Goracke threw down some highlight reel dunks on the break – and it’s his combination of athleticism and skills that has college programs very intrigued.
Goracke notes that he continues to hear from coaches at Oregon State, Porltand State, UC Santa Barbara, UC San Diego, Eastern Washington, and Seattle, but is still waiting for that first scholarship offer. “Most of them are saying that they are really interested and like my upside,” Goracke said. “They say to keep working and they’re going to keep watching.”
As he strives for that first scholarship offer, Goracke continues to help lead the Lancers. His expectations for the rest of the reason are sky high. “I think we’re going to win the state championship – I’m fully expecting it,” Goracke said. “It’s going to be teamwork – we’ve got to trust each other and play together. I think we’re the most talented team in the state so if we play hard and play together, I think we can beat anybody.”
Goracke currently ranks as the #5 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2020 rankings.
