Continue ReadingAlthough St. Paul Central is 11-5 and on top of the St. Paul City Conference, dynamic 5-foot-7 senior guard Ronnell Porter is not backing down from his high expectations.
“The season has been a little shaky,” he told NHR. “We should’ve won some of the games we lost… we are our own worst enemy right now. As for me, I just feel I can be more of a vocal leader.”
Porter is averaging 13.1 PPG for the Minutemen (elite mascot name) and is joined in double figures by fellow seniors Daveonte Davis (20.1 PPG) and Dion Ford (14.4 PPG). They’ve rolled through their conference with no win being by less than 25 points, and they’ve hung right in there with tough non-conference teams like Park Center and Buffalo.
“We have a great senior core that has been playing together since middle school,” Porter said. “I love playing with a fast pace — I feel I’m at my best when the ball is being pushed. I also love pick and roll in the half-court set to set my teammates and myself up for easy points. And on the defensive end, I like to pressure the ball.”
Ronnell “would love to play at the next level” and has heard from collegiate programs Hamline and Lake Region State. He’s looking for somewhere that would fit his personality and playing style, and he plans on playing a senior spring with Grassroots AAU.
You can catch the next game for Porter (and fellow D1 juco prospects Davis and Ford) on Tuesday night when St. Paul Central visits St. Paul Harding.
