Continue ReadingJohnathan McGriff came up big down the stretch of McNamara’s win over St. Andrew’s at the Inaugural MLK Basketball showcase last Sunday. McGriff hit a lot of tough shots in the final quarter to help the Mustangs hold off the Lions and pick up their 14th win of the season. McNamara has already recorded 4 more wins than they did all of last season, and with each one they pick up from this point forward they are one step closer to accomplishing their goal.
“Most importantly I want to get a WCAC Championship,” McGriff told Prep Hoops. “We just want to get as many wins as we can and change the culture with the Bishop McNamara family.”
On Sunday, McGriff showcased improved strength when finishing through contact. His body control is impressive, and the consistency of his shot continue’s to improve. Coach Keith Veney has instructed McGriff to keep shooting, and he looks more confident than ever with his shot.
“Recruiting-wise, I’m hearing from Florida Atlantic, Towson, DePaul a little bit, and I’m getting a lot of love from Conference USA schools like Western Kentucky and ODU,” he said. “Coaches tell me they like how aggressive I am. They tell me to stay focused and locked in.”
McGriff is expected to re-take the SAT in March and hopes to be fully qualified once the results come in. What can the dynamic floor general bring to a college program?
“Most importantly I can lead. I feel like I can lead any team. I just want to get my teammates going. I can get others involved, keep their confidence up, and run the show.”
Johnathan McGriff is currently ranked by Prep Hoops as a top-25 prospect in his class. To view the full ranking of Maryland and DC’s 2019 class, click here.
