The 6-foot-8 sophomore only scored 4 points — shooting 2 for 6 from the field — but he displayed excellent passing skills and was superb on the defensive end in helping keep 6-10 Duke signee Vernon Carey Jr. at bay.
Henderson & Co. packed it in and held the Sharks All-American to a 6-for-17 shooting performance and 15 overall points. The young left-hander has strong hands, is an excellent rebounder and provides coach P.J. Brown with a rim protector.
“I just tried to box out hard and just go for the ball every rebound,” Henderson said.
“He played well today,” Brown added. “He was active. He rebounded the basketball. He blocked some good shots. We’ve got to get him to finish a little bit better [on the offensive end]. But it just takes time, a little experience.”
Brown says Henderson is working on some of the little things. They want him to have a better base; are looking for him to be more explosive; and to demand the ball in the post. Brown expects those traits to come as Henderson matures.
“He has a chance [to play major college basketball],” Brown said. “South Florida came to see him. Clemson came to see him. … FGCU.”
Westminster Christian is 16-4 overall and unbeaten in 5A-District 16.
