We’ve seen that on a larger scale throughout this season, and most recently in a matchup against fellow freshman sensation Devin Dinkins. PVI blew Gonzaga out on the road, and McDaniel insisted that he wasn’t trying to get caught up in any 1-v-1 hype against his AAU back-court mate.
“Devin is like my brother,” said McDaniel. “He was trying to make me better so I was trying to do the same thing.”
McDaniel’s role with this PVI team is that of a facilitator, which he excels at as a result of his superb ball-handling, quickness, and overall feel for the game. As the season has progressed, the freshman has gained confidence and become a more consistent scoring option while doing a nice job putting his teammates in easy positions to score and not force too many looks.
“I think my jump shot is underrated,” McDaniel explained. “I make on average about 150 shots per day.”
Current area’s of focus for McDaniel are defense, shooting off the dribble, and finishing more consistently in traffic at the rim. He is also working hard off the court, where he’s got all A’s and B’s.
“My mom doesn’t tolerate that,” McDaniel joked when asked if he had any C’s.
Wake Forest recently became the first high major program to offer McDaniel. We believe many more will eventually follow suit. What are his current goals?
“To win the WCAC Championship.”
