The 2020 combo guard says his junior year has been incredible.
“It has been nothing but me learning and growing from my prior year on varsity,” Sawyer Jr. told Prep Hoops. “I got a lot stronger this year and became more aggressive offensively scoring the ball and getting my team more involved.”
As for his recruitment, Sawyer Jr. said no offers have come, but he’s patiently been waiting for the first one. Right now, he’s drawn interest from Tennessee Tech, Texas San Antonio, UNF, James Madison and a few others.
This past summer, the 6’3″, 150-pounder suited up for Raptors Elite.
“I grew from guarding point and shooting guards with the same skill set and athleticism as myself and I defensively got better with on-ball defense,” he said.
Sawyer Jr. says he relishes his opportunity to be a leader and help people around him become better players.
“What separates me from other, in my opinion,n is being able to handle pressure, keep everyone relax breaking the defense down and scoring the ball,” he said.
Tied with Orangewood Christian in Class 4A-District 3, the Eagles have to go through Santa Fe Catholic (16-5, 5-0) to take home the district crown. Sawyer Jr. will have to play his best basketball come districts in a few weeks alongside his counterpart 2019 guard Blaize Darling. This is where he can separate himself and further his value.
