The 6’3” point guard works so well in ball screen situations. He has learned how to manipulate them the way he wants to get what he is looking for out of the play. That might be a pick and roll where he gets his big man involved, coming off it on a drive to the rim, or using it to set up his pull up game. Burst with the ball in his hands especially getting downhill. Had a couple big finishes in transition. Overall he has a good feel for the game and was best while setting up his teammates while picking his spots to score. Did have a few too many turnovers. Like his potential on the defensive end as he continues to get better on that end. Rebounds well for a point guard. Love’s line was 23 points (8-17 FG) (2-6 3PT), 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 6 turnovers, 2 steals, and 2 blocks.
We caught up with him after about the latest with his recruitment.
“I have Louisville, Texas, Mizzou, Illinois, Purdue, and everybody.”
Love said a few schools are really making him feel like a priority.
“Louisville, Missouri, and Texas.”
Two of those schools head coaches in Louisville and Mizzou were at Highland to see him. What stands out about Louisville and Chris Mack’s program?
“I love their flow and style of play. I love the culture. We have a great relationship and text everyday pretty much.”
Love took an unofficial visit to see the Cardinals play on Sunday. In-state Missouri has made him a major priority and had their full staff out to see him.
“We talk every day. They are pretty much at everything. Obviously it is the hometown and the relationship is tight.”
Texas has another St. Louis lead guard Courtney Ramey on their roster currently and is a school he mentioned he would like to see up close.
“They let him play his role. I think he could do a little bit better. He seems happy there. I talk to him sometimes and he says he is happy there.”
Illinois has made a serious run for Love and his services with several trips to the STL to see him recently as well.
“Every other week we talk. (Jamall Walker) is at practices and games. Our relationship is real tight.”
What is he looking for on visits to the schools involved when he is visiting?
“Style of play, coaching, chemistry with the players, and how they feel about the coaches.”
Love doesn’t really have a timeline for a decision at this point.
