Harry Lackey ran with WHBH 16u Gold for AAU, starting each game. The 6-foot-6 wing played well and then disappeared. He had wonderful passing skills, but definitely vanished every few games.
For Lackey the talent and obviously size was there. He just didn’t have the consistency desired by Division 1 basketball coaches.
Though it arrived gradually not immediately the consistency is much better for Harry Lackey (PHT #43 in 2020) and there are plenty of games within which he dominates.
Tuesday night against Page High included one quarter of domination.
Staring up at a seven-point fourth quarter deficit, Harry and his Brentwood Bruins need something special.
A loss to Page would instantly elevate Franklin High to first place in District 11 AAA, as the Rebels won earlier Tuesday night.
Lackey delivered the magic.
In the final two minutes he made a three point basket and converted a three-point play.
Brentwood, thanks largely to Harry Lackey, escaped Page High with a 48-47 victory.
Recruitment
From the time he was a freshman in high school Harry Lackey possessed a frame and a game that suggested Division I basketball. Development and progress are never assured and plenty of players with more potential than Harry failed to reach their goals.
Harry Lackey is succeeding now. College coaches from Division I universities are aware of him and expect many more to evaluate him this coming AAU season with WHBH 17u Head Coach J.P. Primm.
Coach Primm played collegiately at UNC-Asheville after advancing his Dickson County team to three District Championship games. Coach Primm landed on All-State Second Team his senior year (2008).
Coach Primm maintains regular contact with college coaches as he helps promote.
Davidson, Western Kentucky, Tennessee Tech, Wofford, and Lipscomb all have an awareness of Harry Lackey. They are all at differing stages of “interest” for the versatile wing.
Brentwood still maintains plenty of fight and a serious chance at pushing into the regional semifinals again. For the Bruins Franklin High awaits at least one more time. District 11 AAA is as tough as during any of Lackey’s varsity seasons.
Still, Harry Lackey shows up every game.
