There were lots of familiar faces as well as some new ones as we accounted for 150 players in South Dakota. Here’s a dive into my thoughts on the rankings and a breakdown of the list.
Stock Risers
#4 – Jared Jaros: Have you watched this kid play at all? He really is a fun player to watch and has worked hard to gain this recognition as a top 5 player in his class. Not only is the size and athleticism there, he can score at all three levels. This makes him a force to be reckoned with and a big reason why Sioux Falls Lincoln is currently undefeated and ranked #1 in class AA. Lastly, the intangibles are there: effort, work ethic, demeanor etc.
#8 – Nick Hoyt: SHOOTER!! Probably the best in the state, or at least good enough to have that argument. Hoyt has been the catalyst for this Harrisburg team this year and he hasn’t shied away from it. Another dude with just a great work ethic and leads with such enthusiasm. Has had multiple 30+ games this year and he will be a main reason why Harrisburg is relevant later in the year.
#15 – Jacob Prouty: Do-it-all guard from Clark/Willow Lake. He is quietly establishing himself as one of the better guards in this class and is a real contender for Class B player of the year. C/WL is undefeated and with Prouty having the ability to score in the 30’s, get rebounds and pile on assists this team will be dangerous come march.
Senior Led Teams
Tea: When you have the #1 and #2 players in the Class of 2019, you should be a senior led team. This would of course be Noah Freidel and Justin Hohn (both D1 commits). That would be good enough to warrant Tea in this category, however they have 6 players ranked in the Top 100. #18 Kade Stearns, #33 Mason Ritter, #88 Jack Unruh and #91 Kaleb Joffer round out Tea’s senior class and this group together is a proven force.
Bridgewater-Emery: #3 Ranked Sawyer Schultz leads the way. He is the catalyst for this team, however having two other Top 50 players in the same class doesn’t hurt (especially for a smaller class school). Jamin Arend and Carter Dye are ranked #29 and #50 respectively. Both who are committed to Dakota Wesleyan for football, add to the playmaking of Schultz to create a Class B three-headed-monster.
Sioux Falls Christian: In an ultra competitive Class A, SFC has two top 12 ranked players to lean on in their senior class. Mitchell Goodbary checks in at #6 and Gavin Schipper at #12. These two play well off each other and can both be scorers as well as playmakers which allows SFC to play free and be versatile.
New Faces:
#16 – Aidan Evans: 6’7” shooter for Sioux Falls Roosevelt who just moved to South Dakota right before the season started. He adds some length and shooting ability to a team with exceptional young guards.
#45 – Trey Christensen: 6’4″ forward who is strong and tough as nails. Committed to Dakota State, he plays well with #7 ranked Camden Bialas on their Parker HS team. These two make for quite to dynamic duo in a region where Parker can make a run at the state tourney. Look for Christensen to make some noise and pop large on to the HS landscape if Parker makes an end of the year push.
#58 – Nate Kneebone: 6’5” forward who has put up some big games this season already. Flandreau will need to him to play big and continue to improve as the season goes to help their chances in a tough region.
