The 6’7″ forward began his career at Parkway North High in St. Louis before spending the past two seasons at MMA, where he has been a consistent scorer and rebounder for the Fighting Colonels. He is a solid performer in the point with his size, athleticism and ability to protect the rim.
“My strengths are definitely my rebounding and athleticism,” Oberuvwu said. “I also like to pass the ball and get my teammates involved.”
As a junior, Oberuvwu averaged 11 points and eight rebounds a game for MMA. He has improved on those marks as a senior, where he is currently averaging 12 points and eight rebounds while blocking two shots and shooting 59 percent from the field. He has enjoyed some breakout performances during the season, including a 21-point, 11-rebound performance in a game against California, 15 points and 11 rebounds against Linn and 20 points and six rebounds against St. Elizabeth. Oberuvwu is hoping for even bigger results from his team this year.
“Our goal is to win districts this year and see how far we can go in the state tournament,” he said.
