Continue ReadingIn tonight’s district match-up Cypress Park plays host to Cypress Ranch. This is a UIL 6A Region II District 14 game. Cypress Park is in it’s first season as a varsity program sitting at 9-17 overall and 2-8 in the district. Cypress Ranch is looking for it’s 20th win on the season. They sit at 19-6 overall and are tied for 1st in district play at 10-1. Here is the game synopsis and upshot.
Tigers played solid and forced 4 turnovers in the 1st Qtr, but the Mustangs was able to capitalize on all missed baskets in transition. Giving them a 11-10 lead at the end. In the 2nd Qtr the Tigers were turning the ball over like it was a hot cake. Cypress Ranch was making them pay for every one by increasing the lead at halftime to 29-16. Scrappy D by the Tigers all them to claw there way back into the game. Cy Ranch still holds on to the lead at the end of the 3rd Qtr 41-33. The 4th and final Qtr was a great defensive showing by the Tigers who got the game down to a 2 point lead with only 0:50 seconds to go in the game. The final minuets was a game fouls and the Mustangs came out on top 54-50.

Delor “DJ” Johnson 6’4 SG / Cypress Ranch / 2019 – Southern(D1) PHTX100
DJ was able to get in the lane at will. He finished well in the paint. His speed from end to end is crazy fast. Handled the ball very well. Knocked down a pair of trey balls in the game. His wingspan also allowed him to be a factor defensively. He finished the game with a double-double. Scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
Branden Holt 6’4 W / Cypress Ranch / 2019
He is a bouncy wing that attempts to block everything. Has good speed. Long and athletic. Has a solid build for his position. Plays with a good motor. Had a nice two handed alley-oop from off the glass. Finished the game with 11 points and 7 rebounds. Would be a solid player at the D3/NAIA/JuCo level.
Ethan Mayes 6’0 G / Cypress Ranch / 2019
Shot the ball well from deep. Played solid defensively, but has a tendency to reach a lot. Moved the ball well offensively. Finished the game with 9 points on 3-6 shooting from behind the arc.
Kesean Bennett 6’3 W / Cypress Park / 2020
Played really solid tonight. Finished at a high rate around the rim. Shot the ball well from the foul line also. He was active on the glass. Tried to put a defender in the rim. Shot blocking capabilities. Finished the game with 17 points. He scored 13 points in the second half of the game. He also brought down 9 rebounds in the game.
Cameron Jeng 6’0 G / Cypress Park / 2020
Was anchored by his defensive ability to keep his player in front of him. Physical physique that allows him to move his opponents on both sides of the ball. Plays with a good motor. Good athleticism. He is the team leader this season in points and rebounds. Finished well around the rim. Finished the game with 11 points and also grabbed 6 rebounds in the game.
Terron Cofield 5’9 PG / Cypress Park / 2020
Was attacking his man off the dribble. Plays with a high motor. Has a tendency to leak out early. Has quick hands defensively. Knocked down a pair of trey balls in the game. Finished the game with 9 points and 2 steals.
