Patrick Baldwin Jr.
Patrick Baldwin Jr. is the number one sophomore in the country for a very good reason. In Thursday night’s matchup, Baldwin was able to get any shot that he wanted. Because of his height, Patrick was able to shoot over the smaller Brookfield Central defenders. Entering this game, Baldwin wasn’t even 100 percent. Patrick said that he came down with the flu earlier this week. Regardless, he still scored 23 points and led his team to a big-time road win.
David Joplin
David Joplin put Brookfield Central on his back. While Patrick Baldwin has the clear advantage on the perimeter, Joplin has the upper hand in the paint. The 6’6″ forward was the most physical player on the court on Thursday. Joplin was able to show off his touch in the paint and also from behind the arc. Joplin finished with 30 points and 11 made field goals.
Cole Nau
Cole Nau drew the tough assignment of guarding Patrick Baldwin Jr. Nau, like so many other defenders who came before him, struggled to slow down the five-star sophomore. Cole Nau is typically a terrific defender, but when you give up five inches to anybody, it is going to be a challenge to stop them. Unfortunately for the Lancers, It seemed as if most of his energy was given up on the defensive end of the floor. Nau scored just six points. The Chargers have held Nau in single figures in both of their games. In the first meeting of the season, Nau was only able to score three points against his school’s bitter rival.
Carson Smith
Carson Smith’s contributions on offense gave the Chargers a huge boost. Smith hit some shots in the first half that allowed Hamilton to have a 37-30 lead at halftime. Smith has emerged as a key scorer and a three point sniper for Sussex Hamilton.
Tanner Resch
Tanner Resch closed out the game with six straight made free throws. These six points were enough to close out the game for Hamilton. Resch also knocked down a three, finishing with nine points. The sophomore was a great glue guy for the Chargers in their victory.
Gage Malensek
Sussex Hamilton head coach, Andy Cerroni stressed the importance of keeping Gage Malensek out of the lane. Malensek has been crucial to Central’s success this season. He entered this game as Central’s leading scorer, averaging just over 20 points per contest. Malensek scored 22 points in the first meeting between the two schools, but Hamilton got the last laugh. In last night’s game, the Chargers slowed down the Central star. Malensek scored just ten points and made only four shots.
Ben Nau
Nau, like his brother Cole, did not have his best night. Nau struggled to get into on offensive rhythm, scoring just four points in the loss. Nau typically can be counted on to score about ten points per game, but he was just not able to get his shots to fall last night.
