The Bulldogs head into 2019 with a 9-3 record and Sophomore point guard Wade Pelfrey is a large reason why they are having that success. Averaging just shy of 17 points per game on the year, Pelfrey is shooting right at 48% on the season while making just under 38% of his threes. But Pelphrey’s impact goes beyond just scoring the ball. He told me, “My game is just go out and play as hard as possible at all points in the game. Play aggressive on both ends whether its getting to the rim, pulling up, getting a steal, or a loose ball.” The 6’2 point guard described his strengths, “My strengths are finding ways to score any way possible, getting all my teammates involved, and also my Basketball IQ.
Pelphrey, like many Sophomores has plenty of room to improve as a defensive player. He told me, “I think I need to improve on the defensive end with being able to create more turnovers and make players more uncomfortable when guarding them.” Hazard is currently sitting on top of the 14th region with that 9-3 record and Wade is pleased with his own performance but knows there is always room for improvement. “I am happy with my sophomore season but I know I can be better and I know I can make my team better. I have to continue to work hard and find ways to get an edge on other players.” Heading into 2019, Pelfrey is hoping that his team can take their game to the next level, “My goals for my team for the rest of the season would definitely be to play defense better as a team and play hard. If we do these two things we can have a great remainder of the season and make a good run in the post season.” With their Sophomore leader continuing to improve, Hazard is trending up in 2019.
