Prospect Spotlight: Tyce Johnson

Indianola has a superstar senior tandem with Evan Gauger and Quinn Vesey, but junior guard Tyce Johnson has been critical to its success as well.
A 6-foot-2 shooting guard, Johnson has been the third scoring option for the Indians this season, and has one of the smoothest jumpers in Iowa.
“I think that my best skill-set is shooting, and I’m good at dishing the ball and communicating with my guys on defense,” said Johnson.
“I think I need to most improve on getting my shot off the dribble and get a little bit tougher, and just get in the weight room.”
As a sophomore, Johnson was brought up to play with the varsity at the holiday break, but he was injured shortly after and missed the rest of the season. He was impressive this past summer when we saw him at the Simpson Team Camp.
Now, he’s averaging 9.8 points and 4.5 rebounds per game as a junior for a 7-1 Indianola squad.
“I think the season is going well, and at first it was a challenge to get used to my role, but now I’m falling into my role and I just do my job and make shots when I need to,” said Johnson.
After the season, he says he’ll attend some camps and play with Indianola in summer leagues. He also plays baseball, but he says basketball is his main sport.
Johnson’s recruitment has started a little already, and could start to ramp up very soon.
“I’m just looking forward to talking with and getting in front of some coaches this summer,” he said.
