The scrappy 5-foot-9, 155-pound guard knows that things will pay off going forward, and for himself the junior is hopeful that his play will help garner him more attention from college programs at all levels.
“It’s always an honor to play at this tournament,” Galbraith said. “There’s great competition and it’s going to get us ready for the rest of the season. (Losing games) isn’t a fun thing and we have some things to work on, but we’ll be ready for (the rest of the season).”
At the tournament, Galbraith was impressive. Over the four games, he averaged 17.8 points and 3.0 assists, shooting a robust 52 percent from the field and 48 percent from three point range. He showed off a diverse variety of ways to score, whether it was hitting the long range shot or driving to the basket and finishing with floaters or near the basket.
“My game has evolved a lot,” Galbraith said. “I feel like I’ve gotten more athletic and my defense has definitely improved a lot. I’ve just been getting a lot of shots up every day and sticking to my grind. The floater is definitely my best shot right now and I’m sticking to it.”
Galraith has become a player opponents have to game plan for and none other than Jefferson head coach Pat Strickland called Galbraith “a Division I player if he were 6-foot-2” after the Demos beat the Saxons in the first round. He’s hopeful that college recruiting attention will increase. Multnomah and Pacific have made early contact with the junior as well as some NAIA schools in California who have invited him to participate in camps later this year. At this point, he’s keeping things wide open.
“I’m just looking for someone who wants me, man,” Galbraith said. “Anybody who’s going to want a little point guard that’s going to play his tail off and do anything he can to win – I’ll do anything, it doesn’t matter. I’m just hoping to get some colleges interested in me before AAU season starts.”
South Salem did bounce back and win their final game at the LSI and from here, Galbraith is looking forward to some big things for the Saxons. “Our expectations are to win league and I think we can win a state championship,” Galbraith said. “I don’t see why we couldn’t. There are definitely some great teams in the state, but if we stick to our plan and get better, work on the things that we need to work on, I don’t feel like anybody can beat us.”
Galbraith currently ranks as the #42 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2020 rankings.
