A true point guard, the 6’0 Froese brings leadership, the ability to score the ball and the ability to handle the ball and create opportunities for his teammates.
Froese says he spent much of the offseason working on his outside shooting and ball handling and says he got in the gym nearly every day to work on his game.
“I have been playing summer ball ever since I was little and I really use the summer to improve my game,” he said. “The summer ball experience for me was great , getting to play with people that you don’t usually get to is great for developing friendships and making yourself a better player. It has prepared me for my high school season by facing a lot of competition every game and really playing the best opponents out there.”
He has seen that hard work pay off as he is averaging 18.5 points and 6.2 assists per game while helping lead Inman to a No. 1 ranking in the latest Kansas Class 2A poll.
Froese says his dad, Brett Froese, who also serves as the Inman head coach, has had the biggest impact on his basketball career to date.
“He has been the high school coach for awhile and ever since I was a little kid I would always come to his games and I was the manager on the team just so I could be around them and I think those experiences as a kid have really made the most influence on why I love the game, Payton says.
Froese says he has always been a fan of NBA point guard Derrick Rose, but has recently begun following the career of former Kansas standout point guard Frank Mason.
“When I was younger my favorite was Derrick Rose because of his ability to finish at the rim and his explosiveness, more recently I was a huge fan of Frank Mason at KU. He is really who I’ve modeled my game after,” he says.
Although he does not currently hold any offers, Froese has drawn significant interest from Tabor, Heston, Ottawa, Nebraska Wesleyan and a few other schools as well.
