Prospect Spotlight: Landon Eiland (2021)
Currently, North Scott is our top-ranked team in Class 4A; a team chock-full of upperclassmen, there’s one sophomore that has been able to make a major impact, 6-foot-4 guard Landon Eliand.
With his size and length, Eliand has been able to make a major difference for the 8-0 Lancers. He’s a guy who could see his stock rise considerably in 2019.
“I’d say I’m a tall and long defender and a good shooter, and good at getting into the lane,” said Eiland. “I think I need to get better at ball-handling and getting stronger, I’ve been working on that lately; and just getting all-around better.”
With North Scott this season, Eliand is averaging 6.9 points on 50 percent shooting. Against Muscatine, in his second-ever game with the varsity, he dropped 19 points. Eiland says his role varies from night to night, and he’s just doing what he can to help the Lancers stay on top.
“My role on the team is to be a good defender, always be there for my team, get rebounds, play hard and hit open shots,” said Eiland.
“I’m just trying to help the team win, and every night my role might change. I’m just trying to get some more rebounds, or score if I have to, or sometimes just get my teammates open looks.”
After playing with the Iowa Mavericks last spring and summer, he’ll spend his upcoming offseason with Iowa Barnstormers 16U.
“I’m just trying to play great and get more looks from colleges and all that,” said Eiland. “I’m just going to play hard, like what I’ve been doing, and being on the Barnstormers I think is a good fit for me.”
