Prospect Spotlight: Keontae Luckett (2019)
On both the hardwood and the gridiron, New London senior Keontae Luckett has been one of Iowa’s most dynamic athlete for three seasons now.
The 5-foot-9 point guard is currently averaging 11.5 points per game on a blistering 65 percent shooting and 7.2 assists per game this season for the Tigers.
relies heavily on his supreme athleticism to rack up those high assist numbers.
“I like to play quick, my team really relies on me and my ball-handling and setting up guys. I try to find open guys and get my teammates the best shot they can get,” said Luckett. “I also play intense defense, full-court and I try and apply a lot of pressure that way.”
Not only is Luckett performing exceedingly well this season, but his team is, too. The Tigers are currently 13-0, and PHIA’s 2nd-ranked 1A team.
Luckett says this season has the same feel as the Tigers’ state tourney season from two years ago.
“My senior year has been comparable to my sophomore year, the year we went to state. We’re playing really well right now, we’re undefeated. But we’re staying humble and staying focused because we’re trying to make more history,” said Luckett.
As a running back with New London in the fall, Luckett posted video game numbers, going for 1,598 yards on a whopping 10.4 yards per carry and 26 rushing touchdowns. So although he’s a standout on the hardwood, it’s football he says he’ll play in college.
“I’ll probably end up playing football. I really enjoy basketball, it’s definitely my favorite sport, but I think I’m better at football,” said Luckett., who mentioned Iowa Central or Iowa Western could be his college football destination.
“I’m pretty set on football,” he said.
