He is averaging 15 points per game with a FG% of 46.2% and a 3 point FG% of 41%. He is also shooting 87% from the free throw line. He is also averaging 3.5 rebounds per game along with 2.7 assists and 2.5 steals per game. At 6’0 tall 175 lbs Bowen (2019) is a strong quick guard who can slash to the basket and finish through contact.
Bowen (2019) began playing varsity as a Sophomore. “I started playing varsity my Sophomore year an that’s the only time I’ve been to the state tournament.” The past two years have given him a lot of experience hopefully will help him lead the Tigers back to the state tournament.
On December 18, 2018 Idaho Falls traveled down to play Blackfoot. Bowen (2019) ended the night with 22 points and putting his athleticism on display. At the end of the 4th quarter Blackfoot put on a full court press. Bowen (2019) was able to use his speed and ball handling ability to break the press and either score a layup or dish to an open teammate as the defense tried to help on him. He was able to take over the game and preserve the Tigers lead. Idaho Falls won that night 72-59.
His performance that night against Blackfoot highlighted what he says are his strengths. “My best strength as a player would be attacking the basket and being able to finish with contact. Also being able to find open teammates and getting everyone involved.” Multiple times that night he was able to drive to the basket and make the layup through contact and score the free throw.
Playing for two of Utah’s premier grassroots teams has helped Bowen (2019) hone his skills. “From 8th grade to my sophomore year I played for UBC and we played at tournaments in Las Vegas and Anaheim. This last summer I played for Cache Valley Elite out of Logan, Utah. Coach Brimhall really helped with my confidence and jump shot.”
Bowen (2019) has also been invited to participant in multiple showcase events put on by Mountain Hoops out of Salt Lake City Utah where he has been able to compete against some of the best talent from Utah, Idaho and other states.
As talented as he is Bowen (2019) continues to work on improving, “I’ve been trying to improve my mid range game and being able to pull up for a jumper.” He doesn’t necessarily pattern his game after anyone, but he does have a favorite NBA player he watches,”My favorite player currently is Russell Westbrook just because the energy he brings to the court every night and his ability to finish.”
Bowen (2019) is being recruited in both football and basketball. “I’m going on a visit to Rocky Mountain College in Billings next weekend for football. Southwestern Oregon CC has been talking to me recently for basketball.” As the season continues and Bowen (2019) continues to put up the stat line he currently has it is likely the number of schools recruiting him will increase.
