Continue ReadingUnion County has been an afterthought in the second region for over a decade. Sophomore Kale Gaither is aiming to change that over the next three seasons. The 2021 point guard is averaging 24.3 points per game for the Braves after a transfer from neighboring Henderson County after his freshman season. Gaither is also shooting 55% from the field overall but only 24% from behind the three point line. He’s also adding 4 rebounds per game for the 6-5 Braves heading into 2019.
Kale describes his game as, “I attack the basket but I really am an all around threat.” He told me his biggest strength is finishing around the rim but that he needs to improve as a defender. Gaither is enjoying his new school and has his focus on getting the Braves back to relevance in the second region and beyond. When I asked his goal for his team for the rest of the season, he told me that he wants the Braves to get to the state tournament at Rupp Arena. It remains to be seen if he can get his team to the Sweet Sixteen this year but one thing for certain is that he is a top point guard in the class right now and has a chance to finish his career at Union County as one of the best players to put that jersey on.
