The 6-foot-2 combo-guard brings tough D and savvy to the floor. And says he excels at getting teammates open looks.
“My biggest skill-set is my defense and my IQ and my athleticism. I like point guard a lot, so my job isn’t really to score, I like to get my teammates involved and I score when I need to,” said Simpson.
“I need to work on my 3-point shot, my jump-shot, it’s not bad, but it’s not where I want it to be yet. And I want to work on my stamina, it’s not where it needs to be.”
Simpson tore a tendon in his knee and missed the first month of the season, he returned in late December, and has helped the Yellow Jackets to an 18-3 record.
“I’ve just been trying to be a vocal leader,” said Simpson. “And I’ve been playing good, I’ve been averaging like 13 points.”
With Game Elite 17U this spring and summer, he’s hoping to see some of his current Division I college interest materialize into offers.
“My recruitment has been good, I’ve gotten interest from Tennessee State, Old Dominion, Middle Tennessee State and Kennesaw State,” said Simpson.
“My goal coming into this summer is to get as many looks as I can, and try to get an offer.”
