The Sophomore stand-out is a 6’1 combo guard who can play at a high level on or off the ball. Having seen him multiple times, Shaver can execute the offensive game plan very well. Also, he does a great job of using screens to get open.
A threat to pull up from anywhere on the court, the young Warrior has the traits to be an elite scorer. During his sophomore campaign, he has showed the will to get to basket easier as well.
The first Freshman to start for a legend of a coach Joe Balogh in 33 years, would have to be a player that’s going to be real good.
Before a bit of an injury on his sophomore campaign, Shaver was averaging about 16 PPG to go alone with six rebounds and four assists per contest. Also, shooting 87% from the line and 42% from deep.
Griffin is also a standout on the baseball diamond, I was able to catch up with the multi-sport athlete a bit. The sophomore guard is also an above average student, with a 3.7 GPA, grades will probably never be an issue.
I asked Griffin what the best part of his game he feels is, he said “I feel the best part of game that helps us win, is the ability to create shots for my teammates.” An unselfish player, exactly what any coach wants.
Also, I asked what is an area of his game he wants to improve? Griffin said “I try to work on every aspect but, I’d probably like to work on scoring consistently and scoring when the team needs a basket. Just being able to take over and be that guy.”
The Sophomore is all about winning, he told me “I take pride in being that guy and I push my teammates to get better, during practice, I want to win so I do whatever it takes to motivate my team.” Which is a really solid trait, that a lot of young players don’t realize until a little older.
Shaver has talked to many colleges, and attended camps and such. Should be a player that D2 colleges get in on immediately.
