Continue ReadingEl Dorado 2019 post player Cameron Clausing is putting together a strong senior season as an old-school post player who has the ability to play a physical brand of play who can also step out and make jumpers.
At 6’4, Clausing brings a bruising style of play to the floor and is averaging 10 points and 5.5 rebounds per game for a well-rounded El Dorado team. He has put together several strong performances this season, including a 15-10 double-double against McPherson earlier this month.
After a strong summer competing with Kansas MTXE, Clausing says the experience has helped him gear up for the season.
“Playing summer ball has been a great experience for me,” Clausing says. “ It has given me a lot of confidence, made me a tougher player, and helped me to play more under control in a faster pace game. Playing with Kansas MTXE has improved my game so much.
“This offseason I worked on my jump shot in order to me a more consistent mid range and 3-pt shooter. I also worked an having a more diverse set of moves that I can use in the post whether my back is to the basket or I’m facing up.”
El Dorado features three senior standouts and despite a slow start to the season, Clausing has high hopes for the second half of the year.
“We’ve gotten off to slow start but we are looking forward to the second half of the season and looking to turn it around,” he said. “I’m looking forward to improving through the rest of the season.
Clausing says his parents have been the biggest influences in his basketball career to date.
“My dad coached me all the way through sixth grade and has always been extremely supportive,” Clausing says. “They drive me hours to tournaments out of town and lose time at work in order to make it to all my games. Without them I wouldn’t be the player I am.”
A fan of the Kansas Jayhawks, Clausing says he enjoys watching Dedric Lawson.
“He has great footwork and is so smooth when he plays in the low post. He is so much fun to watch,” he says.
A standout student, Clausing says he hasn’t yet heard from any college programs.
“I want to get a degree in engineering and that is my No. 1 priority and if it means sacrificing basketball I am willing to do that,” he says.
