Prospect Spotlight: Caleb Delzell (2020)
With great size and a seriously versatile set of skills, 6-foot-7 forward Caleb Delzell is a primed to have his stock rise considerably in 2019.
The Camanche junior is big enough to dominate in the paint, and skilled enough to play from the perimeter. Both of which he’s been doing this season with an 8-0 Camanche squad.
“Recently, with this team, I’ve been moving down into the post. But I also handle the ball for us sometimes, too, shoot 3s and dish off to teammates down low,” said Delzell. “Against zones, I play the high-post for us a lot, where I can dish off to guys, or try and score.”
As a sophomore, Delzell played well for the Indians, going for 9.3 points and six rebounds per game. This season, he’s taken it up a notch, and is averaging 15.6 points, 5.6 assists, 2.3 steals and 9.6 rebounds per game.
His Indians are meshing well, and currently ranked No. 2 in our latest Class 2A poll.
“We’ve just been playing our hardest. We’ve been playing the hardest defense we can, trying to get as many wins as we can get, it’s been really great,” said Delzell. “We have really good team chemistry, we’re all brothers on and off the court.”
When his junior season is complete, Delzell will head into a critical 17U offseason with Iowa Mavericks. That’s when his recruitment could take off.
“I’m still kind of waiting (for recruitment), I haven’t really heard much,” said Delzell.
He did mention Minnesota D2 Bemidji State reached out to him last summer, but that’s all he’s seen so far.
“I’m just trying to put myself out there,” Delzell said. “…get on the map, and prove to college coaches that I can play at that level”
