The Skyline guard has that particularly skill in his set and it is serving him well so far in what has been a successful junior season. It has also been a season in which Robertson has begun to show potential as a prospect.
“He’s explosive and quick off the floor,” Skyline head coach Tyler Cerveny said. “He’s good at the rim and has a great midrange game. I’d like to see him get his 3-point shooting up a little bit but he really does a great job filling up the state sheet for us.”
A starter as a sophomore last season, Robertson is averaging 16.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.7 steals as a junior. He stands at an even six feet tall but has impressive explosiveness and unexpected length to his frame, which allows him to finish at the rim and compete on the boards. Robertson knows he is a threat to attack the rim and finish both through contact and over defenders, and uses that knowledge to get off a consistent midrange jump shot when defenses give him space.
Robertson is hitting 32 percent (13 of 41) of his 3-point attempts through 11 games, which is a slight improvement over his sophomore season. Without either a significant improvement in his long-range shooting or a late growth spurt, Robertson is likely on a NAIA or Division-III trajectory in the vein of 2018 Skyline senior Brayden Blick who is a freshman at Mount Mercy University.
If he grows more or dials in his 3-point shooting stroke, Robertson might reach a higher plateau. While he hopes for growth, Robertson has spent his offseason playing with the Colorado Anarchy club.
“Coach Brown and his guys have done a great job with him,” Cerveny said. “He is really determined to keep getting better and he just continues to do so.”
With Robertson as yet another up-and-coming basketball player in the mix at Skyline, the Falcons are currently 6-5 and looking to make their third straight postseason appearance this winter.
