The Peachtree Corners Invitational has been one of the best and consitent showcase events in the metro Atlanta area for sometime now. Year after year the event brings us some of the best programs and players in the state and in the nation. Last season we had the pleasure of seeing top players like Sharife Cooper, Isaac Okoro, Jalen Lecque, EJ Montgomery, and others. This season we have another very good line up and below we preview each matchup and what prospects to watch out for.
3:30pm – Greater Atlanta Christian vs Independence (NC)
The first matchup of the day features two great programs in their respective states and both programs are the defending champions in their respective classes in their state. Greater Atlanta Christian are Georgia’s defending class 3A state champions and Independence (NC) are the North Carolina class 4A defending champions, so this will be the battle of the champions. GAC features one of the states available seniors in 2019 PG Hunter McIntosh. McIntosh is a 6-foot-2 point guard who is able to score in bunches if you allow him to get hot. Alongside him in the backcourt features Belmont commit 2019 SG Ben Sheppard. Sheppard has great size at the two-guard position and is a solid on ball defender alongside his perimeter shooting skills. The Patriots of Independence (NC) will be coming with a solid squad and with an overall record of 13-3. Even though they lost a few key seniors from last season’s championship squad, this year’s team is still one of the best in their class and will be looking to come out with a win in the PCI.
5:00pm – Buford vs Ridge View (SC)
Following the GAC-Independence matchup, the Buford High School Wolves will be taking on the Ridge View High School Blazers out of Columbia, South Carolina. Ridge View (SC) are the class 4A defending champions out of South Carolina, so you know they mean business. The Blazers feature Georgetown commit 2019 C Malcolm Wilson and Southern Wesleyan commit 2019 PG Joseph McKenny. This Ridge View (SC) squad features a few other next level players and their matchup against Georgia’s own Buford should be another competitive contest. Oklahoma State commit 2019 F Marcus Watson leads the pack of this year’s Buford squad once again. Watson has had a solid senior season and alongside High Point commit 2019 F Eric Coleman The two have led Buford to an 18-2 record so far this season and with some good quality wins and will be looking to add to their resume with a win over South Carolina’s 4A defending champions.
6:30pm – Wheeler vs Gonzaga (DC)
Things will begin to get real good in this matchup. Both Wheeler and Gonzaga (DC) are known for their programs nationally around the country and have always had players move onto the next level of competition. Wheeler has been facing heat all year along, so this year’s group of guys are battle tested. Denver commit 2019 PG Jaire Eastmond and Cal commit 2019 SG Charles Smith IV have led the pack for Wheeler all year. Eastmond is an elite floor general who is the engine that runs the Wheeler offense. Smith IV is a outstanding perimeter jump shooter who will look to get into his opponent on defense. Gonzaga (DC) have been led by 2020 F Terrance Williams, one of the top players in his class. Terrence is an extremely versatile player who can basically do it all for his squad. He is able to play multiple positions on either offense or defense and could be known as a glue guy. 2019 PG Anwar Gill will also be a player to watch in this matchup of Gonzaga (DC). Both programs are very disciplined and will not taking losing lightly, but only one can win.
8:00pm – Norcross vs Gray Collegiate (SC)
Norcross and Gray Collegiate (SC) have already met once before back in December at the Chic-Fil-A Classic in Columbia, South Carolina and where Norcross took the win 64-56. The night cap should be a good one between these two. By now everyone in the country should know 2020 W Brandon Boston Jr. of Norcross High School. The junior wing has had a stock rising junior campaign this season and is one of the favorites to capture Georgia’s Gatorade Player of the Year award. USC commit 2019 PG Kyle Sturdivant has also helped in Norcross’s success this season and his matchup with 2019 PG Tommy Bruner of Gray Collegtiate (SC) should be one to keep an eye on. Bruner is one of the avaialble prospects in the senior class and is a tough and efficient point guard. Bruner is able to knock down shots from beyond the arc and can drive the lane for bucket if he needs too.
