They ended the season 6-17 but this year has been much different. While watching Jake play this summer you could see the hunger to get better in his eyes, demeanor and play.
The 6’3 shooting guard is well known for his ability to shoot the long ball, but Jake spent a lot of time working on his mid-range and ability to get to the basket. While Jake does score the ball well he has been underrated defensively. Jake does hold his own on the defensive end and to top it off he rebounds well for a guard.
Jake talks to us about his recent 3OT win against his former coach.
“I think it was a double edge sword because I am grateful for the opportunity he gave me last year as a sophomore playing varsity and all the experience I gained from that and on the other hand I just really wanted to prove to him we could win! It definitely brought a sense of excitement to this game.”
jJake talks about what part of his game translates to the next level.
“I have skills that I think any college team could benefit from. One thing this season has taught me is that you can reach higher heights when your team plays together and everyone supports each other. I am a great teammate, with a strong understanding of the game of basketball. My range also helps my team, by being able to shoot the three ball effectively, it opens up opportunities for inside guys to shine as well. My basketball IQ helps me take advantage of when to take the ball to the basket or to shoot the ball. I have a good understanding of the game and the things we try to accomplish offensively and defensively. My speed and wing span help me be a strong defender and capture many offensive and defensive rebounds per game. I have worked hard on developing my whole basketball game and not just being a one dimensional three ball shooter.“
Jake is a solid basketball player that continues to work on his game. He is a (D2, NAIA, D3) college prospect. He has scored in double figures in all 13 games played this year. In most games Jake is being face-guarded but he still manages to score in double figures all while averaging 5 rebounds a game. He even holds a 4.0 GPA.
Jake has been an itrical part of the turnaround season Woods Cross is having. They’re currently 11-3.
We want to wish Jake and his team good luck the rest of the way.
