Both teams started off firing on offense with a 21-32 lead for the Thunderbolts after one quarter, but the Thunderbolts continued the hot streak through the game. Manual stormed their way to a season-high in points en route to a 63-99 victory. Trailing 31-59 after halftime, the Mustangs started the third quarter with a 10-4 run, though quick turnovers to transition buckets left them a bit out of striking distance by the end of the period. With plenty of points to be had, a few players left some great impressions.
Coming into the game for the Thunderbolts, 20 SR Jaedon Bowles (G/F, #6 SR) was averaging a solid line of 24.3 PPG, 8.9 RPG, 3.1 APG (MaxPreps) and did not disappoint in this one. Jaedon was able to create his own shot at will, and his smooth dribble and great body control allowed him to finish on both sides of the rim. At 6’5″ Jaedon is able to play anything from point guard to small forward. His versatility and shot-making is a big key for Manual going forward.
2 SR Adontre Thompson (F) may have had the game of his career. He missed one shot on 15 attempts while showing excellent touch from 15 feet and in, and he even nailed a 3 pointer. Adontre displayed a nose for the basketball on both boards and the Mustangs simply had no answer for him in this matchup.
Rounding out the performance of the three Thunderbolt captains was 3 SR Davion Davis (G) who was all over the place. The Thunderbolts implemented a full-court press to start the game, and Davion was a huge part in really slowing down the game for the Mustangs. Even in half-court sets Davion showed impressive feet and hands in gathering a number of steals. Not to forget his ability to knock down the 3 and great vision in setting up teammates with easy looks.
For the Mustangs, 2 SR DeAnte Dennis (G) demonstrated the ability to effectively run an offense. DeAnte’s athleticism is apparent; he completed two reverse layups, one with each hand, and often was able to create space for his own shot and create good shots for others. While the scoring load was a bit too steep to overcome this game, DeAnte definitely has the ability to knock down points in bunches.
3 SR Alex Mushkin (G) displayed an equally great ability to run the offense and knock down shots. Alex displayed the ability to finish with both hands, and was quick enough to often leave his defender on his hip, setting up for good looks to teammates in the paint. Alex is very athletic as well, and his ability to create his own shot will lead to some excellent stat lines going forward.
23 FR Elliott Cravitz (G) really stepped up in the time he spent on the floor. Elliott had an excellent second half and was all over the court. His defensive instincts are great, his shot from all levels was confident, and his ability to dribble and create for others was on full display. Elliott is definitely on watch for improvement going forward.
