Continue ReadingThe winner of the player of the week voting for week 7 of the high school season is G’Angelo Reillo of Whiting. Reillo received 1,735 votes on the poll, good for 60.54% of the total vote. He scored 30 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, and dished out 11 assists against Lake Station in his lone game of the week.
Reillo has been playing really well this season as through 13 games this season he is averaging 19.8 points per game and 12.1 rebounds per game. The 6’2 guard has been doing pretty much anything that he wants on the court this year and this game was a culmination fo everything that he has been doing well.
“We started the season off strong and a great start but we have been losing close games I think we could have pulled off,” Reillo said. “We are just trying to get back in that rhythm we were in during the beginning of the season. Individually I think I am doing OK. I know I can do much more but everything is coming back how I want it to so I am feeling real good about the rest of the season.”
Reillo also told me that he is excited to see how the end of the season ends up as the team has been learning from the little mistakes that they have made in the close losses that they have had.
Reillo is hoping to play at the next level and he is continuing to work on things that will get him there. He is a leader on this team and that is a role that he is embracing.
“Right now I am focused on being a better team leader on and off the court because we have a lot of seniors and also young guys that look up to me,” Reillo said. “Also I am working on everything in practice skill wise. One thing I really improved was my shooting. Getting open shots, off the dribble shooting, and mid-range. I shoot after practice on our gun machine for about a hour everyday.”
