10 Best:
1. MVP: Brock Miller (Northmor)
The 6’5 Junior was very impressive, as you will hear his name more. Putting up 21 points, deadly inside and a nice touch from the mid-range game. Pulling in 12 boards, Miller has a knack to get up and rebound over anyone. Blocking multiple shots he was ge rim protector that willed Northmor to tonight’s win.
2. Play Of The Game: Block Sequence by Northmor’s Brock Miller
As earlier mentioned, Brock Miller was swatting shots and making it tough inside for the Freddies all night. In the final minutes, the junior forward blocked a shot, that would have given Fredericktown the lead. On the other side, the stud Miller got deep position and laid it in. This play gave the Golden Knights the momentum they needed.
3. Top Offensive Peformance: Blake Miller (Northmor)
Once again, we recognize the player that did it all in the Northmor win. A load inside most of the game, Miller showed the ability to handle the ball a bit and create his own shot as well. Putting up 22 points on the game, with 15 of them coming in the second half. When his team needed a bucket, Blake Miller showed up big time.
4. Best Defensive Peformance: Blake Miller (Northmor)
A solid two-way player is exactly what Miller is. Blocking three shots on the night, making it tough for Fredericktown for the eternity of the game. Also, adding a steal, the Junior found ways to disrupt the inside pass advance well.
5. Best Player Off The Bench: Ty Hatfield (Fredericktown)
Coming off the bench, Hatfield gave Fredericktown a solid ballhandler. Moving the ball well and keeping the offense flowing isn’t exactly what number 23 did. Showing a nice shot from deep as well. Hatfield played the top of a zone with aggression not allowing either guard to have any room to move the ball.
6. Best Intangibles: Hunter Mariotti (Northmor)
Doing all the extra work in this contest was Northmor’s Mariotti. Picking up 2 steals, he was on the ground for multiple loose possessions. Also, forced a key offensive foul on Fredericktown. In the final minutes he picked up a key offensive rebound to seal the game for his team.
7. Best Under-The-Radar Peformance: Cole Dille (Northmor)
A player that really impressed me was Cole Dille. The senior was on a mission on the boards picking up 11 rebounds. Not doing a whole lot on the offensive side with just six points, the Knight’ Senior fought to give his team extra possessions and was big on defense.
8. Best Underclassmen: Lincoln Cunningham (Fredericktown)
The sophomore wing-guard was a force for the Freddie’s. Their leading scorer with 17 points, he got it done in multiple ways. A strong cutter to the basket, and quick through the lane was unguardable at times. Also, showed his ability to stroke it from deep a couple times.
9. Best Coaching Decision: Fredericktown Press
Most of the game, the Freddies ran a greuling 2-3 zone that Northmor fits until the final quarters. Major props to the head coach for gameplanning that move, which single handily carried Fredericktown for about three quarters.
10. Best Story To Watch Moving Forward: Can Northmor build off this?
Coming into the game at .500, Northmor picked up a much needed win over the 7-4 Fredericktown program. This may have been a good boost for the Golden Knights. The win moves them into tied third in the KMAC, with just East Knox and Highland ahead. With about 10 games left, there’s still plenty of time for Northmor to get it done.
