Holiday season went quick. With most teams off for the extended breaks, there weren’t as many games going on last week particularly at the Class A level. Nevertheless, there were certainly teams that stacked up impressive wins. Here are some of the teams that had productive weeks despite the time off:
Wahpeton
The Huskies showed no signs of rust, beating Devils Lake in dominating fashion, 79-50. The Firebirds are one of the teams that figures to contend for a middle seed in the EDC and could be a darkhorse playoff team, so a 30-point win over them is certainly eye-opening. The Huskies dropped a few games early in the year to some of the top teams in the league. Can this win be something that puts them on track? Time will tell.
Hillsboro/Central Valley
The Burros hadn’t been tested a whole lot before Christmas. But given the mass roster turnover, perhaps that time to acclimate new faces to the varsity level proved beneficial. Hillsboro had a couple good tests last week in the Hillsboro Holiday Hoops Showcase and passed with flying colors, dominating in a 65-46 win over Oak Grove before beating Richland 57-56.
Thompson
The Tommies are on a tear to start the season and picked up two really good wins over top-10 caliber opponents last week in Minot. The first win came in the Hoopster Classic where they beat Dickinson Trinity 49-39. The second came in the Dale Brown Classic where they took it to Bishop Ryan, beating the Lions 73-57.
