Hillsboro/Central Valley
The defending Class B state champs are going nowhere at least until very late in Region play. Carson Henningsgard is one of the best players in the state and considering how little of the rest of the team is back from last year, what the Burros are doing has been extremely impressive.
Thompson
The Tommies drop a spot because of a weird loss to Larimore last week. Ultimately it changes the calculus very little because this is still one of the best two or three teams in the state. And they should be getting even better as Cadyn Schwabe gains more playing time. He’s an impact two-way guard.
Four Winds/Minnewaukan
The Indians have been terrific all season long with a close loss to Hillsboro in early January being their lone blemish. With the amount of firepower and depth at the Indians’ disposal, they’ll be one of the favorites to win the state title.
Shiloh Christian
Shiloh continues to roll through a soft part of its schedule. Tougher games are coming at the end of the regular season but with Jaden Mitzel and Macauley Young inside plus experienced guards on the perimeter, the Skyhawks are going to be tough for anyone to beat.
Rugby
Rugby suffered its first loss of the season last week but seems to be on a collision course with Bishop Ryan for a Region 6 championship and spot in the state tournament. The Panthers final three games of the regular season should provide a good test as they get Four Winds, Bishop Ryan and Dunseith.
Bishop Ryan
The Lions lost a couple games early in the year but by no means did they go anywhere. Ben Bohl and Mason Hedberg are still around and Bishop Ryan’s team defense is still terrific. This team will be a factor without doubt come late February.
Richland
Richland earned a really good win last week, beating Kindred in what could very well be a Region 1 championship game preview. The Colts have a bevy of good athletes and talented scorers. But they proved in that game that they can win with staunch defense too.
Kindred
The Vikings have been very good all season and a loss to Richland does nothing to change their ultimate upside as a team. Kindred should win at least 15 games and be in the hunt for the top seed in Region 1 and to get to state, the Vikings will likely get another shot at Richland.
White Shield
The Warriors are 14-1 on the year and averaging better than 70 points per game. Led by Frederick Fox and Jesse White, White Shield looks like the favorite to come out of Region 8 to get to the state tournament.
Grafton/St. Thomas
The Spoilers just keep on trucking. After a slow start to the year, Grafton’s figured things out recently and just picked up a big win, beating Cavalier in a game that figures to have Region seeding implications. Dalton Albrecht has been a force all year and is one of the best players in North Dakota.
