For those of you who are not familar with the Spalding Hoophall Classic, it is one of the best high school boys showcase events in the country and has been for years. Future NBA players have played in this event and current players like Anthony Davis, Ben Simmons, Andre Drummond, Julius Randle, Aaron Gordon, Jordan Bell, and more have competed in the past.
This year’s field is super loaded and includes programs like Montverde Academy (FL), Brewster Academy (NH), Oak Hill Academy (VA), McEachern (GA), IMG Academy (FL), Paul VI (VA), Roselle Catholic (NJ), Rancho Christian (CA), Whitney Young (IL), and plenty more. McEachern, Norcross, and Holy Spirit Prep will be representing the peach state well in their time in Massachusetts. All three programs have already taken multiple out of state trips and have all been battle tested up to this point in the season.
Norcross will be making their third trip out of state, Chic-Fil-A Classic (Columbia, SC) and the Cancer Research Classic (Wheeling, WV) being the first two. The Blue Devils had a rough start to the season but have been solid in the second half of the season and coming in with a 14-7 overall record. They will be matched up against Roselle Catholic (NJ) on Saturday January 19th. Roselle Catholic (NJ) features top-25 senior and Kentucky commit F Kahlil Whitney, senior PG UNLV signee Josh Pierre-Louis, and top-60 junior F Cliff Omoruyi. Junior W Brandon Boston Jr. and senior PG USC signee Kyle Sturdivant, and senior F Xavier commit Daniel Ramsey should all matchup well for Norcross with Roselle Catholic (NJ).
First year HC Tysor Anderson and his Holy Spirit Prep squad have had an up and down type of year this year and have been almost everywhere around the country. This will be the Cougars fifth out of state trip and going against out of state programs, so it is no question that they are battle tested. Holy Spirit Prep’s squad this season has been headlined by senior SG Anthony “Ant-Man” Edwards. Edwards will be looking to lead his squad to a win over Long Island Lutheran (NY) on Sunday January 20th in Springfield, Massachusetts.
For McEachern, this will be their fourth out of state trip and they will be coming off their trip from Springfield, Missouri where they are competing in the Bass Pro Shops TOC. The Indians will be playing on the last day of the 2019 Spalding Hoophall Classic and they are scheduled to be matched up against Rancho Christian (CA) and the Mobley Brothers. USC signee senior F Isaiah Mobley and the nations number one junior, according to ESPN, C Evan Mobley headline the Rancho Christian (CA) squad. This matchup should be very interesting as Cooper and Okoro look to add to their resume against one of the top teams on the west coast and the nation on Monday January 21st.
