NEW: Week 5 Team Rankings
Atlanta, Georgia – The Week 5 Georgia Team Rankings are in. With only a week left in the regular season, the top ten has changed once again this week and we have some new faces. This week most programs will be playing their last regular season game before the post season and region tournament play in two weeks. Below you will find out who all made the top ten this week.
1. McEachern High School (Powder Springs, Georgia) 22-0
The Indians continue their undefeated streak after defeating Rancho Christian (CA) last weekend at the 2019 Spalding Hoophall Classic and winning three region games this week and where 2020 PG Sharife Cooper scored a combined 77 points in their region matchups against North Paulding and Marietta. The Indians will have two more region matchups this week and will travel to Campbell High School on Saturday night for the season finale. The Indians should go into post play at 25-0.
2. East Coweta High School (Sharpsburg, Georgia) 23-1
The East Coweta Indians have made their case and made it well that they are one of the best teams in the state. They are currently the number two best team behind McEachern with Grayson and Morgan County both taking loses last week. The Indians season finale will be against region opponent Newnan High School this Friday and where East Coweta should win that game and end the regular season at a 24-1 record. They have already clinched a playoff berth after locking the number one spot in the toughest region in the state, region 2 class 7A. It has been a long time since East Coweta has competed in the GHSA playoffs.
3. Grayson High School (Loganville, Georgia) 20-3
The Rams took a lost to region opponent Shiloh High School, a team they already defeated earlier in the year, this past Friday night. The Rams will have two road region games this week to end their regular season and will look to make another class 7A final four run and maybe beyond that this season. Gryason will be looking to win their region title, region 8, but it certainly will be a dog fight.
4. Meadowcreek High School (Norcross, Georgia) 18-4
Though the Mustangs barely defeated their region foe Parkview High School last week, they are still a top five team in the state and will be a hard team to beat come playoff time. The Mustangs last two games will be against two very tough region opponents and that will be on the road at Berkmar High School and then they will have a visit from their neighborhood rival Norcross High School on Friday night before they begin region tournamenr play.
5. Buford High School (Buford, Georgia) 20-2
The Buford Wolves got themselves three wins last week and one good quality win over Ridge View (SC) at the Peachtree Corner Invitational at Norcross High School on Saturday. Their last two regular season games will be against Loganville High School, a region opponent they already lost too, and Clarke Central High School this week.
6. Norcross High School (Norcross, Georgia) 17-7
The Blue Devils continue to improve and get a flow with their two wins last week over region opponent Lakeside High School and another win over Gray Collegiate (SC) in the Peachtree Corners Invitational and where they were led by, once again, 2020 W Brandon Boston Jr. (25 points) and USC commit 2019 PG Kyle Sturdivant (21 points). The Blue Devils will have one more regular season game and that will include a trip to neighborhood rival Meadowcreek on Friday night, a squad they already lost too back in December.
7. Morgan County High School (Madison, Georgia) 22-2
Morgan County moves down a couple spots after a bad lost to Langston Hughes High School in the MLK Dream Challenge last week. The Bulldogs are still one of the favorites to win Georgia’s class 3A title and will have one game this week to end their regular season against region opponent Monroe Area High School.
8. Newton High School (Covington, Georgia) 17-5
The Newton Rams go 2-0 last week with wins over T.L Hanna (SC) and region opponent Rockdale County High School. The Rams are not done being tested just yet. Their last three regular season games this week will include two region games at home with one of those being against Shiloh High School on Tuesday night. Their regular season will end with a matchup against a very good Eagles Landing High School team on the road.
9. Discovery High School (Lawrenceville, Georgia) 20-3
The Titans of Discovery crack the Georgia top ten for the first time this season. Their lone three loses come from Norcross, Meadowcreek, and Milton High School. They are currently on a 10-game winning streak coming into this week and will have three games this week to end the regular season. Discovery is a scary and underrated squad to look out for in the GHSA class 7A state playoffs. Could this season be the year Discovery makes the final four?
10. Greater Atlanta Christian (Norcross, Georgia) 19-4
Greater Atlanta Christian has not taken a lost since their appearance in the 2018 TOC Classic at Wheeler. The Spartans continue to improve and will be looking to defend their title in Georgia’s class 3A. They crack the top ten once again after loses from Wheeler and Pebblebrook and their win over Independence (NC) in the Peachtree Corners Invitational at Norcross High School. GAC will end their regular season this week with two more region games against East Hall and Franklin County High School.
