NEW: Week 4 Team Rankings
Atlanta, Georgia – The Week 4 Team Rankings are officially in after a crazy week for the peach state. Let us take a look at who moved up or down in the latest Georgia Top Ten.
Note: updated as of Jan. 20th
1. McEachern High School (Powder Springs, Georgia) 18-0
McEachern High School continues their run after winning the 35th Annual Bass Pro TOC in Springfield, Missouri this past week and where 2020 PG Sharife Cooper was named MVP after averaging 26.3 points per game in their three games out there. They continue to add to their wins resume as well after defeating top national programs like Shadow Mountain (AZ) and Sunrise Christian (KS). The Indians stay on top of the Georgia rankings and will have another big game this week against Rancho Christian (CA) in the Spalding Hoophall Classic in Springfield, Massachusetts.
2. Grayson High School (Loganville, Georgia) 19-2
The Grayson Rams, in my opinion, are right there with McEachern and are once again at that number two spot in the rankings after going 3-0 last week. Grayson defeated region rival Newton High School in a big win last week 70-61 and where 2020 PG Deivon Smith finished with an outstanding 18 points and 20 rebounds, yes TWENTY rebounds. The Rams are not done yet as they have two key matchups scheduled for them this week. Grayson will be facing a hungry Berkmar High School team in the MLK Dream Challenge this week and also facing Shiloh High School Friday night for a region matchup. Grayson defeated Shiloh in overtime last time these two met.
3. Meadowcreek High School (Norcross, Georgia) 16-4
The Mustangs defeated region foe Brookwood High School 59-50 in their lone game last week. The defending champions will be facing a solid Greenforest Christian team in the MLK Dream Challenge this week and will also host region opponent Parkview. Mustangs should cruise in their only two games this week but will have to crank it up next week as they travel to Berkmar High School and will meet rival Norcross High School once again, a team they defeated back in early December.
4. Morgan County High School (Madison, Georgia) 19-1
Morgan County improves to an impressive 19-1 record after going 3-0 last week and where they defated a talented Newton High School team on the road 56-51. One of the states top available seniors 2019 G Tyrin Lawrence led with a game high 26 points in their win over Newton Saturday night. The Bulldogs are certainly the favorite in Georgia’s class 3A. They will be facing Langston Hughes High School in the MLK Dream Challenge and region opponents Jefferson, Jackson County, and Hart County this week.
5. East Coweta High School (Sharpsburg, Georgia) 21-1
The East Coweta Indians make the biggest jump in this week’s rankings going up five spots. The Indians contiune to impress and shock the world with major wins in the states toughest region, region 2 class 7A. After defeating Pebblebrook, Westlake, and Wheeler High School on the road last week, it is without question that they are the favorite to win this year’s region championship. Coach Maxwell has his squad playing tremondous basketball and will look to keep their number one spot in the region. They will travel to Campbell and Grady High School this week before their season finale in two weeks.
6. Buford High School (Buford, Georgia) 17-2
Buford High School went 2-0 last week in their region matchups on the road against Clarke Central and Walnut Grove High School. The Wolves will be tested this week as they will face region opponents Johnson and Cedar Shoals High School and then competing in the 2019 Peachtree Corners Invitational at Norcross High School where they will be facing Ridgeview (SC).
7. Norcross High School (Norcross, Georgia) 15-7
The Blue Devils move up after their dominating win over New Jersey powerhouse Roselle Catholic (NJ) at the 2019 Spalding Hoophall Classic in Sprinfield, Massachusetts 75-55 and where 2020 W Brandon Boston Jr. and USC signee PG Kyle Sturdivant combined for 47 points. After facing region opponent Lakeside High School this Friday night, Norcross will face Gray Collegiate (SC) once again in this year’s Peachtree Corners Invitational on Saturday night. The Blue Devils defeated Gray Collegiate (SC) already back in December at the Chic-Fit-A Classic in Columbia, South Carolina.
8. Wheeler High School (Marietta, Georgia) 15-7
Despite losing 3 of their last 4 four games, Wheeler has moved down the polls just a bit after a great start to the season. The Wildcats lost three close games and where two of the loses came from region opponent East Coweta High School. There is no time to look back at that now as Wheeler is set to have two big games this week. The Wildcats will host Westlake High School, a team they defeated by one back in early December, in a region rematch this week and then face one of the nations top programs in Gonzaga (DC) in the 2019 Peachtree Corners Invitational at Norcross High School on Saturday January 26th.
9. Newton High School (Covington, Georgia) 15-5
The Rams lose two key games last week to region rival Grayson High School and to a hot Morgan County High School team at home. Newton will look to bounce back this week as they are scheduled to face T.L Hanna (SC) in the MLK Showcase at Peachtree Ridge High School this week and travel to region rival Rockdale County High School on Friday night and that matchup will not be an easy win.
10. Pebblebrook High School (Mableton, Georgia) 14-7
The Pebblebrook Falcons took a tough lost to region foe East Coweta High School in overtime on the road last week but still remain in the top ten. They will be tested again this week as they will host region opponent Campbell High School on Tuesday night and face neighborhood rival South Cobb High School on Friday night.
