NEW: Week 3 Team Rankings
- Atlanta, Georgia – The Georgia Week 3 team rankings are in. This week contained a couple upsets and close calls with our top ten programs for this week. We also have a new face in our Georgia top ten team rankings. Check below.
1. McEachern High School (Powder Springs, Georgia) 14-0
The Indians are without question still the number one team in the state despite them taking a scare to region rival Marietta High School last week where they were down 35-31 at the half. McEachern ended up winning that matchup 80-72 and where 2020 PG Sharife Cooper finished with 34 points. They also demolished region opponent Kennesaw Mountain High School 103-59 Friday night. The Indians will face region opponent Hillgrove High School Tuesday before heading to the Bass Pro Shop Tournament of Champions this week where they will face Springfield Catholic (MO) in the first round and will face Belleville West (IL) or Shadow Mountain (AZ) in the second round.
2. Grayson High School (Loganville, Georgia) 16-2
The Grayson Rams hold their number two spot with their region wins over South Gwinnett and Rockdale County High School last week. 2020 PG Deivon Smith continues to put college coaches and scouts on notice and is leading his Grayson squad to an overall 16-2 record. The Rams will have a top ten matchup to look forward too this week as they will be traveling over to Newton High School for their second matchup of the season. The last time Grayson and Newton met, back in December, the game went to OT and Grayson pulled out with the 68-65 victory. The environment at Newton will be crazy and this will be a big resume builder for either squad.
3. Meadowcreek High School (Norcross, Georgia) 15-4
With Buford High School losing last week, Georgia’s class 7A defending champions move back up to that number three spot in Georgia’s top ten. The Mustangs breezed through their region games last week against Lakeside and Central Gwinnett High School on the road. Meadowcreek will only have one game this week which will be another region matchup against Brookwood High School before competing in the MLK Dream Challenge at Morehouse College on MLK Day and where they will be facing Greenforest Christian.
4. Morgan County High School (Madison, Georgia) 16-1
Coach Sims and his Morgan County squad go 2-0 this week with wins over region foe Franklin County and a tough outing against a solid Duluth High School team. The Bulldogs have improved to a 16-1 overall record and move up two spots with Buford losing last week. Another test is scheduled to come for this Morgan County squad as they will face Newton High School this Saturday night after they make a visit to region rival East Jackson High School, a squad they only beat by 5 in their first meeting back in early December.
5. Buford High School (Buford, Georgia) 15-2
The Buford High School Wolves split their games last week with a region win over Cedar Shoals High School and an upset lost against region opponent Loganville High School on Friday night. Buford took a lost to Loganville 59-54 and that lost put them down two spots in the rankings. Buford will be on the road this week against region rivals Clarke Central and Walnut Grove.
6. Pebblebrook High School (Mableton, Georgia) 13-6
The Falcons had themselves a week last week after hosting Wheeler High School and rival Westlake High School for back-to-back region games. Pebblebrook defeated Wheeler High School 68-67 on Tuesday night but took a lost to crosstown rival Westlake High School 70-63 Friday night. It does not get easier for Pebblebrook, as they will face a hot East Coweta High School squad on the road Tuesday night and who is currently 18-1 and coming off their win against Wheeler. Region 2 in Georgia’s class 7A is the toughest region in the state, there are no nights off.
7. Wheeler High School (Marietta, Georgia) 14-6
Coach Thompson and his squad take two heart breaking loses last week to region opponents Pebblebrook and East Coweta High School. Wheeler had multiple chances in both matchups to win but took very closes loses. This week the Wildcats get to play on their home floor for the first time since the 2018 TOC Classic back in December. They will host region opponents Newnan High School and East Coweta once again on Saturday night, which should be interesting since Wheeler only lost by 3 points to East Coweta last Thursday night.
8. Norcross High School (Norcross, Georgia) 12-7
The Blue Devils were back on track last week and at full strength after their trip from West Virginia in the Cancer Research Classic. The Blue Devils secured two region wins over Central Gwinnett High School and Berkmar High School. Their matchup against Berkmar was once again a close one. Norcross ended up winning the tight battle 65-60 on the road and where 2020 W Brandon Boston Jr. finished with 18 points. Norcross will have two more region games, against Brookwood and Parkview High School at home, before heading to Springfield, Massachusetts and where they will face powerhouse Roselle Catholic (NJ) in the 2019 Hoophall Classic.
9. Newton High School (Covington, Georgia) 14-3
The Newton Rams go 3-0 last week with big wins over region rival Shiloh High School, Archer High School, and crosstown rival Eastside High School. Their matchup with Eastside was a competitive one with Newton winning 74-65 and where they were led by 2019 PG Tre Clark with 32 points. The Rams have two huge test this week coming up with region rival Grayson High School coming to town on Tuesday and Morgan County High School that Saturday before facing South Gwinnett on Friday night. Their matchup with Grayson and Morgan County will be very good resume builders.
10. East Coweta High School (Sharpsburg, Georgia) 18-1
The East Coweta High School Indians crack Georgia’s top ten for the first time this season and it is very well deserved. Coach Maxwell and his squad are sitting at an impressive 18-1 overall record and puts their name in the top ten with a big win over region opponent Wheeler High School last Thursday night. The Indians will have to live up to their ranking this week as they will have three straight on what should be very tough region matchups. East Coweta travel to Westlake and Wheeler later in the week but will host Pebblebrook High School on Tuesday night. Pebblebrook is the only team East Coweta has lost too and a squad they faced earlier in the year and lost 63-60 on the road.
