BREAKING DOWN THE RACE
The top six teams are all within three games of one another. Oregon is currently sitting on a 1-game lead over Stoughton, Monona Grove, and Monroe. The Panthers’ lone loss in conference play came in a one-point defeat against Edgewood, but they are 3-0 against three teams currently caught in a three-way tie for second.
SURPRISE TEAM
We expected Oregon, Stoughton, and Monona Grove to be in the title discussion, but Monroe is a different story. Kade King (14.1 ppg) has gotten some much-needed help from Cade Meyer (11.4 ppg) and Nick Schumacher (10.6 ppg). The Cheesemakers are 6-6 overall, but have won five games in a very tough and very deep Badger South Conference, including a win over Monona Grove.
MIDWAY POINT PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Monona Grove senior guard Caden Nelson (23.5 ppg) has put up big numbers in 2018-19. Substantially increasing his output from last season (16.1 ppg), Nelson has scored 20 or more points in 10 games, including three 30-point efforts.
Other Candidates: Ethan Victorson (Oregon), Adam Hobson (Stoughton), Kade King (Monroe)
