Findlay got into a rhythm early, including 14 first quarter points from senior Ryan Nunn, and never looked back. They won 81-63 to deliver Lima their second loss of the season. Findlay moved to 8-3.
Led by Nunn, a Madonna commit, there were six prospects who stood above the rest as we scoured the court for potential collegiate ball players. Although there are unmentioned guys who qualify as prospects, these six earned recognition tonight:
Ryan Nunn (2019), 5’11” G, Findlay
stats: 29 points, 4 rebounds
It’s not a new thing, but Nunn is an elite shooter off the dribble. Elite. He hit one triple yesterday after an in-and-out move in transition that was absolutely filthy. He gets hot in a hurry, too, scoring 20 points in the first half alone. Nunn finished about three tough layups after back-cutting a defender who was in ball denial. Shows nice patience with the pump fake in the paint. He’s become stronger with the ball. The Madonna commit is a good team defender.
Ryan Roth (2019), 5’10” G, Findlay
stats: 21 points, 7 assists
Nunn carried Findlay in the first half, Roth returned the favor after halftime with 14 points after the break. He exploded in the third quarter with a couple extraordinarily deep 3-pointers. The Capital commit shoots it with range. He also used a height advantage against a 5’4” defender to score inside.
Roth executed as the point guard on Friday. He handled the ball against pressure with a calmness. Although he had a couple turnovers, his timely entry passes to the wing and post made up for it.
AJ Adams (2021), 6’4” W, Findlay
stats: 20 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists
Adams, the leading scorer and rebounder on this team, is an efficient shot-maker around the basket. An elite finisher, Adams makes life easy on his guards by winning position on post-ups and making timely cuts towards the rim. Scores everything inside 8 feet, including a beautiful one-foot fall-away on a post up. Versatile defender who is both tough and strong. His jumper will need to improve if he’s going to play the 3 in college.
Josiah Fulcher (2020), 6’2” G, Lima Senior
Stats: 15 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals
Fulcher might still be in the air from a fourth quarter rebound attempt — his hangtime on jumps is ridiculous. Seems to have made improvements as a leaper and it helps his game. Fulcher now rebounds very well, especially on the offensive glass. He also hung in the air for assists before passing late to an open big man. Great first step. We love what he brings to the game on defense — good instincts on double teams, long arms, quick feet, effort, high IQ.
Fulcher’s body language was also very good. He played chippy with his matchup and never backed down from a challenge. Stayed poised in a hostile environment when the game wasn’t going well. Always receptive to the coaching staff. Leadership was on display.
Jamir Simpson (2020), 6’5” W/F, Lima Senior
stats: 14 points, 10 rebounds
Simpson is much improved all around. He’s in better shape, which makes him lighter on his feet when he’s attacking the basket. Even his spin move is a step faster. He can defend in the open floor against wings. Simpson is a more vertical player around the rim and he loves to go for tip-backs on missed shots. Really effective scorer when attacking from the elbow.
Khalil Luster (2022), 5’4” PG, Lima Senior
stats: 10 points
Luster is going to be a lot of fun to watch these next four years. Love this kid’s game. Wonderful passing skills, including post entries. Takes care of the ball. Able to shoot from the outside when he has space. Luster’s ability to move his feet on defense is a weapon. On-ball defense is a major strength and he has quick hands to pick pockets, too. Talented ball-handler.
