Here are some teams that had excellent weeks
Class A: Minnesota Valley Lutheran
What a week for the Chargers. After cruising through an early-season slate that didn’t provide many challenges, Minnesota Valley Lutheran went into the meat of their schedule and earned two really good wins last week, beating New Ulm Cathedral 76-73 Tuesday before picking up a massive overtime win over Springfield. Jake Kettner was terrific, scoring 31 and 25 in the two wins and Dunwa Omot scored 20 in both.
Class AA: Minnehaha Academy
The Redhawks are the clear favorites to win the Class AA state title again and almost nothing will change that over the course of the winter. They’ve played a tough schedule so far and done quite well for themselves. Minnehaha picked up three wins and two more good ones last week, beating Eden Prairie 61-60 at Eden Prairie before dominating New Prague 58-41. The Redhawks also destroyed Mounds Park Academy by 70.
Class AAA: Mankato East
The Cougars are on a roll since their early-season loss to Waseca and are in control to win a Big 9 Conference championship. Mankato East picked up two really good wins last week, beating Rochester Mayo 96-78 Thursday before going to Marshall and edging the Tigers 81-69. The Cougars boast one of the best offenses in the state led by one of the best backcourts in Jax Madson and Joich Gong.
Class AAAA: Osseo
The Orioles haven’t been as good as they traditionally are but even in what looks like something of a down season, they are capable of beating anybody. They proved that last week, beating Champlin Park 50-44 Tuesday before going to Robbinsdale Armstrong and winning 64-55. Cornell Richardson was excellent during the week, scoring 17 in the win over the Rebels while chipping in 11 in the win against Armstrong.
